This attractive robusto extra has a bright Connecticut wrapper with a fine texture. Lighting is typical; burn starts slightly uneven, with a flaky white ash, but the burn corrects itself. The first flavor is a fish/umami note. The aroma is toasted and floral.

That profile remains and deepens through the first third. In the second third,  the umami note recedes, replaced by toasted tobacco.  The profile remains flat and one-dimensional to the final third, when the cigar is abandoned due to lack of interest. Sorely disappointing for an Upmann. 
Second sample from this box starts with a flat, meaty tobacco taste and a tight draw. The second third opens up and involves some earthiness and bready notes.

One of my favorite Upmanns, but I never smoked one from 2013, though. You should try one from 2014, to see how it compares. I love mine!
