Por Larrañaga Encantos Vs. Saint Luis Rey Pacificos

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,
I have to choose between buying a box of Por Larrañaga Encantos and one of Saint Luis Rey Pacíficos (both Ediciones Regionales Asia Pacifico), which one would you choose based on your experience? I love the vitola of the Encantos, but believe the aging potential of the Pacificos is bigger (I haven't tried ANY of then). What would you say to help me make the choice? Thank you very much ;)

I've never had the Encantos, but I've heard good thingse.  The SLR Pacificos, IMO, are a good stick but not great. If you're an SLR fan they are worth a shot, but I wasn't blown away by the flavor.  I have a few left and I'm hoping they can still improve.

I have a couple boxes of the Encantos.  Absolutely love them and love the vitola.  Would stockpile more if they were available at anything resembling a decent price.  Have never tried the SLR so can't comment other than I love the SLR Regio.  Don't know if it shares any of the same characteristics as the Pacifico.

I've got a couple of boxes of Pacificos, wasn't very impressed initially but they've been getting better. The boxes I have are medium bodied with delicate white peach flavor.

I'm not going to embarrass myself and say how many boxes of Encantos I have, I could start everyday with one. For me it's the breakfast of champions cigar.

If you are willing to share the source i would say go for the SLR and shoot me a PM 001biggrin.gif . . .

. . . otherwise the Encantos are not the badest idea ( especially as you state you like the vitola ). I would think they have the longer legs and the 8-9-8 is even better for aging purposes than the SLB. If you can choose BD go for the earlier box ( ~ NOV 10 )

Judging by the way my cigar buddies talk about it from time-to-time, I'd say the Por Larrañaga Encantos .

I'm guessing one of them would be me? :lol3:

I've smoked both the Encatos and Pacificos. When the SLR first came out, I was a little disappointed with it (smoked it at a CUNTAS event in Sydney). It was a nice smoke, but didn't really thrill me. Revisited it a few years down the track and it made a complete 180. Now it is a great smoke!

The Encantos, on the other hand, has not let me down since the beginning. It has just gotten better and better over the years.

If it were me, I'd buy both! But since you asked to choose between the two, I'd go for the Encantos.

I really like the Encantos. The SLR are good, but I have found the older, blurred, banded ones are certainly a richer cigar than the crisper, newer bands based on the few of each band I have smoked.

Still, Encantos wins for me easily.

A toss up for me.

Encantos is a superior flavor for me, but have had too many tight/plugged specimens I have been turned off. SLR was good, but not as great as PL. Granted, last time I smoked either was 2015.

Have a full box of each, suppose it's time to start digging in again.

Two of my faves!  I've loaded up on both and you really need to as well. :cigar:  Contrary to your concern, I think the Encantos age very, very well and will keep pace with the Pacificos.  Even though they be slender, the Encanto is a very full flavored stick.  Purge and light it and the oils coming off it will be so massive you'll look like a bloody flame thrower! :P

If you share out your cigars, then everyone will know what to do with the Pacificos, but you'll have to encourage your posse to smoke the Encantos slowly, delicately, to avoid overheating the stick and turning nirvana to sharpness and bitter.  But that said, it is a class stick!

I'm prattling on about the Encanto, but the Pacifico is just as wonderful an experience.  I would suggest you tell your GF that there will be no expensive dates for a week or two while you save up for a box of each. :P  And while you're at it, order a box of the Punch Sabrosos, they'll have you spending hours trying to decide between a Sabroso or a Pacifico! :cigar:

A good problem you have there, as both are great sticks. If you are a big SLR fan, go the Pacificos, I just love them.  But you wont go wrong either way.

My two cents....

I think both of these cigars are excellent, and were/still are tremendous values. With respect to Encantos, in March of 2015 I purchased my first box, and I was perplexed that a regional lonsdale with 2011 box code could be had for $250 and people were not falling all over themselves to grab all of them. This is when 2015 Partagas 8-9-8's were going for the same price, and lonsdales in general were disappearing. Then I smoked half that box and promptly picked up 4 more boxes on 24:24, all the same price roughly, and all the same box code URG MAR 11. I still can't believe these were so readily available at the price point, and even with recent price increases, they are a tremendous cigar with 6 years of age and getting better every day.

I got into the SLR Pacificos late in the game. One year later after enjoying the Encantos so much I saw the Pacificos on 24:24, and again I was surprised that a 2009 regional in Cab format was available for a reasonable price ($340 then), without people scrambling for them. I picked up a 5 pack and a cab, and upon sampling the 5 pack knew this was a special cigar. Totally different animal to the Encantos. Where that cigar is complex, elegant and subtle, the SLR is in your face, full bodied, and needs to be dry-boxed else its oily wrapper had a tendency to burn wonky. This cigar has unmistakeable SLR DNA, but to me is similar to a Cohiba in that you can tell it has legs for ages.

In any case, I have several boxes of each, and this thread might make me go and order another cab of Pacificos! They're still available at various vendors for not much more than I purchased my original cabs at.

Amazing responses. The answer is that both cigars are great! Although given that I had to choose one box, the majority voted for the ENCANTOS! I have a handful of SLR also to try :) while I smoke thru the Encantos box, I'll let you know if we made the correct decision.

Happy and good smokes my friends,

Boxes of both, SLR is about my fav brand as well BUT I'd have to say Encantos. Buy some Serie A's (when they come back) or Regios.
