When i tried my first plpc last year. It was from the robs rotation sampler, so i assume it didn't have much age. It wasn't caramel yet,  but it was soooo delicious. It was all toasted tobacco and prominent Burnt Brown sugar. I've since bought a nice 50 CAB, and am working my way through

Nobody has mentioned the one which most definitely made me go "wow..bloody hell" and that's the Cohiba Shorts.  Never had a small machine rolled make me even really take notice.  This cigar has blown UP.   Pics are everywhere where people are enjoying them.  I am as well.

It's also funny how I've noticed so many people taking credit for discovering the COSHO.  Ladies and gentleman, and I've said this at least 5 times @Lotusguy was the one.  He discovered these and was kind enough to share how great they were back in October.  Cheers to him!

It does make me wonder if it was the revolution that killed a traditionalist cigar mentality or if it just evolved? I cannot help but think there was at one time brand loyalty with cigars just like there is with beer, cigarettes and soft drinks. It does not mean of course that one won't 'rough it' with another brand, but I could see myself smoking largely one cigar, as I do largely smoke one cigar...!

I could actually be happy with #1's, 3's, 4's and 5's if they were consistently great cigars. I don't need nor desire 'special release' cigars. I did try it, tested the concept of specialty cigars and the endeavor proved frustrating. If one's goals are to constantly upscale one's smoking experience, wrapping your lips around expensive untested products is not the way to do it.

Only in the cigar world (or perhaps dealing with Microsoft) do people pay extra to become beta testers! If someone wants to 'test' their products on me, so that I can find their flaws, they should give them to me, not charge me double what it costs to get reliable products.

Am I wrong, or does our peer group often conclude that the new cigars are often a bust and typically the original of the release is the best of them when they are actually good? If the Mag 1.2x10 to the 12 is a great cigar, how many did you have to get burned on before you found it?

Habanos consumers are largely beta testers. Me, I am not being paid to test someones cigars, so I will stick to what has a favorable track record...

Good point piggy. Just think a lot of cigar smokers/degenerates are collectors and like buying and trying new things. It's a hobby that can grow very quickly. The market has us by the balls so to speak.
Btw, really curious what your one favourite cigar is...

This is a great topic and has definitely placed some cigars in my queue to try! Being new to CCs and letting my first acquisitions rest for 30 days, I don't have anything to offer, but boy have I gained some knowledge! Thanks again guys!

La Escepión Selectos Finos 2011 Italian RE.

The closest tasting cigar to the Cuban cigars I smoked in the 70s, 80s, 90s. It took me on a trip back in time in just a few puffs.

Before the cigar boom that was pretty much how it was...the people I knew that were cigar smokers had a 'cigar identity' based on the cigar they smoked. Each of my Uncles smoked one brand of cigar in one size. Period. If you shared a cigar with one of them and didn't have one of your own, they handed you their signature cigar. I remember their friends by what they smoked. The men that smoked the thin Cuban Davidoffs were the fancy guys. The churchill smokers were the big shots. Men that smoked the corona sized sticks seemed to also be cigarette smokers. I was a rebel, when I started smoking during college I smoked TWO different cigars...the Monti #2 and the RyJ Churchill....then I changed the Monti to the Boli BBF in the early 90s after I had kids and less time to smoke and pretty much designated the churchill to special occasions and BBQs.

When I was a kid and tagged along with my Uncles as they conducted business around town, occasionally I would see a 'cigar collector' with a walk in humidor that a bunch of different brands and sizes. But that was the exception to the rule....not like today where many of us buy more cigars than we smoke. Back in the day before the wide spread use of air conditioning, the cigars would be on the counter of cigars shops...very little in the way of large humidors. In the Winter months they would have steam from the boilers streaming into the shop from the ceiling. And all the cigar salesmen wore shirts & ties in the warmer months and suits in the Winter.

What Piggy is inferring I attribute it more to the excessive ways we embraced in the 80s that help fuel the cigar boom of the 90s. If a little is good, a lot is BETTER. The CC landscape is so different now...as well are the prices.

... excellent post mate!

I mentioned the Magnum 56 earlier, but I have to say the cigar that has completely blown me out of the water this year is the La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.4.  While these are not a new release by any means, I only tried my first one a couple of months ago and I have been amazed by what these bring to the table.

Absolutely fantastic cigar, rightfully deserves its mention here.
