Isaac Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 So i really have screwed up by doing 50 cabs of RASS and Punch Punch. I don't have any room for 100 sticks (if i keep them in the original packaging) in my humidor. I really think i need to steer clear of the 50 cabs. This brings me to thinking about using the humidor option with the site. I picked up a 50 cab of punch punch on 24:24 last week. Is this something that I can smoke within the month after acclimating it, or is it something that is best if let sat for over a year or so? I gotta find someone that will start doing box splits
NSXCIGAR Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I think 2015 & 2016 Punch Punch have been performing very well fresh. I don't think there's any need to age them past acclimatization to enjoy them. But Punch as a brand typically ages very well and in a straight line, so the more age they have the better long-term. But "these need time" isn't something I'm hearing or experiencing with recent Punch Punch. 3

JohnS Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Based on my experience, I second @NSXCIGAR's comments. I have 2014 Punch Punch that I'm resting, but I've had 2015/16 Punch Punch that was very, very good quite young. In regards to the Ramon Allones Specially Selected, I would be more inclined to rest those, as age does taper their intensity and brings out a nice combination of mild coffee, leather and spiced fruitiness. But, that's my palate and your preference may be for stronger, more full-bodied cigars. 2
Elvis Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 You can never have too many 50 cabs The 50cab format seems to lend itself to aging better than dress boxes, 25 cabs. 50cabs also seem to be on the "endangered species" list as they are usually the first to be discontinued. You can smoke them fresh, but it may be worth considering buying those same cigars in a smaller format for daily smoking. And the on line locker is really a great solution to problems like this. Hope this helps!
Isaac Posted April 28, 2017 Author Posted April 28, 2017 So here is another question. What do you all do with your 50 cabs? the box is a behemoth, and won't fit in my wineador without displacing everything else.
Popular Post investandprosper Posted April 28, 2017 Popular Post Posted April 28, 2017 I just put mine in a bigger wineador 4 1

Go to pretty much any big box store and ask the kind folk at the front for a "huge waterproof storage container." or a "giant marine cooler". Get that thing (it'll be around $15-$20 for the container or $40-$400 for the cooler), look up how to remove the plastic smell on here (I use baking soda and news papers), and get some humidity beads, or Unscented Silica Kitty Litter (look it up if you want), or 5-10 Large Boveda packs and chuck your Cabs in there. It works amazingly well. You may want to buy a hygrometer as well. You'll have under $100 in it and you will have your overflow storage solution. Then when you get some free time and extra money get another wine cooler or larger humidor. 5
Dmpotocek Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I'm pretty much at maximum capacity in my wineador and am faced with three possible options. 1. Buy another wineador (costly and would probably catch some flack from the old lady). 2. Stop buying cigars (not going to happen) 3. Buy a cooler. I'm leaning towards #3. It's pretty inexpensive, I can store a good amount of stuff, and I can get it in the house under the radar, and make up a story about experimenting with different rh's if I do get caught. Popular Post planetary Posted April 29, 2017 Popular Post Posted April 29, 2017 My progression: 1. Small desktop humidor 2. Large desktop humidor 3. Wineador 4. Second wineador 5. Cooler 6. Second cooler 7. Aristocrat humidor, wardrobe size ... now >90% full and I'm pressing a coolidor into service again I remember getting a 50 cab -- my first was a RASS, I believe -- while still on the first wineador. I think that's what pushed me into Stage 4. 7 1
SloppyJ Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Your wineador doesn't sound that big. I have a typical Newair 280 and probably have 15 boxes in the including 2 cabs. Pretty equal mix between dress boxes and slide lids.
Islandboy Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I saw this in our Maui Costco a few weeks ago....a new item. I immediately envisioned the perfect application. I’m not out of space yet, but that day is coming soon. I think I need one. https://www.costco.com/YETI-Tundra-45-Quart-Cooler.product.100350199.html

I have a 281, but am still waiting to have shelving/drawers put in. Im having John do two drawers and 4 shelves. Justing using the wire racks in there and the 50 looked like it would take up a good deal of room.

That should be on Planetary’s progression list, under items 3 and 4 1
SloppyJ Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Yeah you gotta ditch those wire shelves. I have 2 cedar shelves in mine. Let the Tetris game begin. 1
Philc2001 Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 Seriously, you're not smoking enough! When I setup my wineador, the first thing to go were the shelves. I used wire closet racks cut to size and they take up no space, and they allow air to circulate freely. I've got 3 Punch 50 cabs in mine at the moment, along with a number of other boxes and 25 cabs. In fact, I prefer and seek out the 50 cabs, they're great for storing and aging. 2

BrightonCorgi Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I have some '16 Punch Punch and think they smoke fine right now. Too hard for me to tell right now if they'll go through a sick period, but I assume they will at some point?
wabashcr Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 Do Habanos still go through sick periods? I thought that was a thing of the past. I know customs and farm rolled cigars can get sick, but I didn't think that applied to commercially released cigars anymore.

Fairly dark with very shiney wrappers. They are wonderful now but I know these cigars will dramatically improve in the next 2 or 3 years. After I smoke one my whole mouth tastes of the cigar from the thick smoke. I wish I hadn't tested the box because the cigars are very good now but soon to be A+. I'm having at them slowly and I'm not sharing.
BuzzArd Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I'm smoking a '13box. They're the reason PP became such a huge favorite with me. Guess they were after the uptick in quality. I'm sold.... Got three 50cabs to age/store. The youngest one I had was the christmas sampler and the blind tasting No1 and they were so much like my '13s I knew the stick pre-light. I think youd be fine diving right in, or slowly working through a box over a period of years.
polarbear Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I have a couple of Cabs of PP from 2014. Smoked a few when they were fresh and found them quite agreeable. if you don't want to age them, I wouldn't say you had too. I'll be leaving one cab alone til at least 2019, but that's just cause I have plenty to smoke til then and have the space to store them When it comes to RASS, my sweet spot seems to be 3-5 years. But I've never had one older than 7 years. Again, got a couple cabs there approaching the 4yo mark and they quite nice.
