No other luxury product has that problem... so I smoke a lot more NC's nowadays... alas : cuban tabacco remains superior... Some sticks are beyond help (though my rookie technique may be to blame), but I'm easily getting 96% to smoke perfectly now.
boilers183 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I would have slowed down/stop buying if it weren't for the OLH. This option makes it so easy to purchase stock you dont "need" 2
ErikB Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Sorry to hear this. Which Marca? Honestly i have yet to have this issue. Majority of my stock is 14-16Across all marcas I buy - feels it got worse again after 2015Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk

Unfortunately, I'm the type of person that won't stop until I've completed my mission, regardless of how silly or petty that mission may be lol. Getting a cigar to smoke just so gives me an overall feeling of satisfaction. 1

I've built up a big stockpile, but was always on the lookout for bargains and interesting cigars to buy. Last December, after rearranging my very full humidors, I decided to make a New Years resolution not to buy any boxes in 2017. I gave myself an out that I could buy singles. It's been a good thing for me. I used to spend so much time hunting for things to buy, and spending plenty. I'm finding that it's a joy to explore what I have instead of constantly buying more. Depending on how fast I smoke, I estimate I have a 5-10 year supply. I've made it to Easter without feeling deprived or seriously tempted. I expect I'll come back to buying in 2018, but with a different frame of mind. Anyone else ever do this? All the time actually! My last buying spree was last year. The time before that 06 to 08... Over the years I have found that while I now prefer pre '02 cigars, there were some great ranges or years for me. There is no real way to tell how good a vintage will be (I am speaking generally, not considering individuals) except posthumously. While I can buy cigars and estimate what the quality will be, I may not be able to properly assess them for years and by that time they will be long gone. Cigar buying is therefore always on the come. For this reason, I don't want to own too many cigars from one timeframe anymore. While I would love to have more from pre- '02 and from the '06 to '08 era, I bought what I thought was the right number and moved on... I am not really happy with '14 and '15 cigars due to filling issues. That means that I don't want too many from this era. I will again wait to see what happens. Perhaps, by 2020 I may be again sorry!!! Food for thought! -the Pig 2
luv2fly Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 On a buying freeze not by choice but due to the fact I lost my job. Once I find a new job, I will make up for lost time....if the "boss" will let me. 1
jfire Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 All things considered, I think 2017 is going to be a great year to suspend or limit purchases if one has any inclination to do that. Quite frankly, I haven't been impressed with much 2016 production aside from a few cigars like BCG and Punch Punch, I'm sure that the poor 2015/2016 harvest is going to start catching up with them soon, potentially resulting in a real quality trough until the stellar 2016/2017 harvest starts appearing in early 2018, which I'm very optimistic about. If I do make purchases, I'm trying hard to stick to 2013-2015 production right now and trying to save up some coin for 2018-2019 production which I think has the potential to be the best quality since the 90s.This is exactly what I think. Keep your subpar/rough wrappers.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ctozzi Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I've held back on boxes so far this year, but that's because I can't find exactly what I want. As our admin suggested in a few recent posts the quality has dropped a good amount and doesn't see a light at the end of the tunnel yet. So I guess I'll just keep hunting for those elusive boxes I wanna age and drool over
bman75 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Despite the recent quality slump, I'm still seeing very nice sticks on 24/24. To each their own, but I plan to at least replace what I smoke.
bman75 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I guess I'd say, this is certainly not the time to buy anything blind. Even Upmann.
Spanishcedar Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I gave up buying whole boxes years ago, right after my good friend got into cigars and we started splitting them... Does that count? Enjoy your stash this year, I hope you find that going through it is equivocally enjoyable as getting new sticks!
jimsta10 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I gave up buying for 10 months, had other interests and work commitments...then started buying again...deep pockets now becoming shallow.
