El Presidente Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 What an awful situation and I feel for them. What a huge kick in the guts. Losing a 40 foot container puts a big hole in your inventory. Let's hope that they put this behind them asap. 3
JohnS Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 A whole 40-foot (12 metres) container vanished? I have every confidence that the culprits will get caught. Yes, I feel sorry for Fuente, for despite the fact that the stock would be insured, there's still surmountable losses in inventory, excesses and lost income.
Jfeath74 Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 I work in cargo insurance and carrier liability, lets hope they have a decent policy, regardless it's going to be a major blow for Fuente. 2
Guest Nekhyludov Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Very unfortunate to hear. Gladly, I don't see how this could end well for the thieves. Fencing hundreds of thousands of Fuentes can't be easy. I would imagine any attempt to do so would immediately raise huge red flags.
havanaclub Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Terrible news. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
dvickery Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 In China someplace by now I imagine ... or Russia or ??? derrek 1
mygar Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Wow...whole container load? That sux... you think about logistics of a heist like that... no common theives. As mentioned, hope their insurance policy is adequate.
BellevilleMXZ Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 That's a lot of cigars to hide and peddle lets hope they get caught.
David88 Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 This seems almost unbelievable. The article suggests that there is currently a degree of limited availability of Fuente cigars and this will certainly make that worse. Hopefully the people responsible are found soon. 1
hababa Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 I'm sure they have adequate coverage - smells like an inside job. 1

Dozerhead Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 How in the heck do you steal a 40 foot container?
zeedubbya Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 18 minutes ago, Dozerhead said: How in the heck do you steal a 40 foot container? At 1:30 there's a little insight. "You might know who we are, but we know who you are." Seriously a terrible tragedy for the Fuentes. Hard to believe this could happen with all the electronics we have today. 3
Jimmy_jack Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 These are inter-model containers. Was probably already on a trailer and ready to roll, if not at a midway holding point. A lot of times these thieves make a call and have a buyer before they are ever pulling them. 1
kuma Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Holy smoke does anyone know how many cigars that adds up too because my calc. does not have that many zeros. If I was a betting man I'd say they are all ready in the deep grey market world by now and some of them are already on their way to the big ash in the sky. 1

Apparently Florida is 3rd in the US for the most cargo thefts recorded. http://www.truckinginfo.com/channel/fleet-management/news/story/2016/11/truck-cargo-thefts-figures-mixed-overall-value-of-heists-falls.aspx
Jimmy_jack Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 @Fuzz Between Jacksonville, Tampa and Miami its the Bermuda Triangle of cargo theft. 2
Fuzz Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 @Jimmy_jack Wouldn't surprise me. Lots of places for a truck to go missing.
beparrish Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 This is a damn shame. The Fuentes are a wonderful family, and I hate to see this happen to them. Hope the cigars are quickly recovered.
PigFish Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 ... been meaning to post this awhile now. I have a rather large collection of NCs to sell. Contact me and HitchTheBitchAndRunTrucking.com. We operate outta' Haiti. Just ask for Big Ray... We also have lovely girls for dating and marriage! -LOL On a more sober note, when I was a kid I did some unpacking of these containers for a bicycle maker/importer. Losing a container is not as rare as one might think. -Piggy 4
finecigar Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I am wondering... they stated "hundreds of thousands of cigars" - now is that 200,000 or 999,999 cigars? I'd say there's a significant difference. Nonetheless, a devastation to their company. 1
