this comes from something i am doing for rob that i think will come through soon but i thought i'd mention it in the context of curious flavours one finds in a cigar. we don't question spices, fruits, leather etc etc etc.

i fired up a san cristobel 'La Fuerza' yesterday and the immediate and very distinct impression was grilled fish. not something i have seen before (or heard of). as i mention in the new thing, the cigar had not been near fish (despite my best efforts to catch some). there was nothing external influencing it. to begin, and for a short while, it just gave off the flavour of grilled fish (and i have eaten more than enough grilled fish not to mistake it). after a while, this disappeared and we went on with an okay but not particularly remarkable cigar.

i found it more curious than unpleasant.

anyone else ever had anything like that?

At least not on this subject. ;)

Some foreign material accidentally rolled into the cigar? After looking at some of the threads of random stuff in cigars, I have decided if I taste something really strange and unexpected, I will cut a cm or two off the cigar to see what if anything besides tobacco is in there. If all good, then smoke the rest of it.

This sounds like a straight line in search of a Clinton/Lewinsky joke . . . :innocent:

no, i don't believe so. the cigar was very well constructed. no hint of anything untoward. it was not unpleasant. just curious.

I gave him a decent tip.

Not only did he undo 30 feet of fly tangles but he serviced my reel. Top bloke.

Did you ever tip the guide in Chile who took your hook out of Des Parks eye?

i bought des a drink. it was des's eye - shouldn't he have tipped him?

that would be the same slimy guide who kept relegating me so you could have the good spots - not that it helped. and i did give him a tip. i told him he had two clients. a good tip for future trips. and he wanted us to arrange for him to come to australia!

i have got to ask, how the hell are you familiar with the flavour of urinal cakes?

Oh come on!  Admit it... you, too, have trilled the air in an overtly-sanitized public restroom...

i had a similar experience of an unusual flavor come out once on the first 1/2 inch of a Padron 1926 Anniversary No 9 cigar. BBQ ribs! i hadn't eaten any ribs for months too! but it really smacked me in the face when it came cause it was so unique. it was dam good too!

sounds like something very "fishy" is going on here but I did have a strange experience once with a tatuaje  black tasted like burnt plastic and that was the end of that cigar for me

I've had a couple of cigars which tasted as cakes smell, though my description was of menthol / mothballs. They were old cigars, and I guess well past it.
