Ok so I'm a bit of a noob to the forum but I wanted to see if any of you have had a similar situation. As the title states I've gone thru about 6 of the H.Uppman noellas out of my jar and have had a very unpleasant sour taste. Almost unsmokeable. Is this something that will remedy itself with age or is a waste of time and space. Lol. I will say I smoked them with only a few weeks rest time. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

These cigars need a huge amount of time to get rid of leaf age gassy stink, to use the technical term, IMO. At least 5 years.

Then they start to get pretty.

I'd say they're bad, you can send em to me!

I have a box of Monte 1s that has a definite sour note right now, I think it balances perfectly with the rich creamy cocoa flavors also present. I am smoking through them now because its a great change of pace, even from a regular Monte 1. That sourness should definitely go away with age though, so if you don't like it, don't worry.

I have 2 jars that I have purchased over the last 3 years and just put them down as I was told to let them sit to improve with age..

Yep.  I tried 2 and they were ok.  I suffer from the "can't leave my hands off stuff" syndrome.  I will not touch the rest for several more years.  Cant look at the date but I think they are 2015.  Will revisit in 2019.

I have a jar purchased a month or so ago and do not plan to dip into them for at least two years.  Currently the jar is in the Humidor and closed up, but i'm sort of thinking opening the jar may not be a bad idea, or at least leaving the lid a bit loose.

First batch did not have date codes. 2010 I believe...unless you are talking about truly original Noellas from decades ago...

I suggest taking the lid off...

Sorry - I should have not been so gruff.

I suggest taking the lid off; as I've had three of these jars.  Usually I would take the lid off; and toss then im the humi.  The last one I purchased I tossed a Boveda pack in, and left the lid on - using it as a humidor which I could easily access from my porch.

After a few weeks, I noticed some condensation in the very top of the jar - which smelled somewhat off.  Ever since I've elected to remove the lids and just keep them safe in my large humi.  I promise you - they are fantastic cigars - well worth the wait!

This is good to know because I have a new jar of these also and they tasted fairly off. I did put them in their own tupperware with the lid open and a 65% Boveda. Figured I would revisit in a few months.
