anacostiakat Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Finally! A Washington Post Magazine article I can enjoy. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/for-ybor-city-in-florida-a-historic-cigar-town-faces-a-cloudy-future/2017/03/15/c6de6100-efa8-11e6-9662-6eedf1627882_story.html?utm_term=.74fae59b2190
dominattorney Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 I thought the same thing, though the writer did manage to throw some finger wagging in about smoke being unhealthy every few paragraphs.
rhcolbert Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Very cool. Way better than most coming out of the media
SCgarman Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 My wife is preparing her resume for a job position within her company at the Air Force base in Tampa. So, I am keeping fingers crossed we get to move out of northern Virginia/DC area and move to Tampa, Florida. This would be a dream come true for me to live in one of the nicest parts of Florida. 1
Jimmy_jack Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 The best thing about Tampa is that hat St Pete and Clearwater Beach are 20 minutes away. Best beaches in Florida if not the US.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
tsolomon Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 The part about smoking 15 cigars in the past 48 hours when he only smokes 2 yearly was strange.
Popular Post TheGipper Posted March 19, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 19, 2017 Good microcosm of modern American journalism. A guy who had never seen a torch lighter before is the Washington Post's idea of an expert on cigars. 5
Professor Twain Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 I posted a reply to the story. Loved his enthusiasm, but he is way too worried about the health effects of cigars.

Duxnutz Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Great article. Was just there recently. Great lil historic area.

Corylax18 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Ybor City is a great part of Tampa. I love walking up and down Calle 7 smoking a cigar and people watching. I know the article was based on cigars (sort of) but he could have spent a lot more time on the amazing restaurants, coffee roasters, and other very unique bushiness that are still surviving. I cant believe what it would have been like with 20,000 people stuffed in that small area! It has definitely turned into something completely different than what it once was, but it has obviously had to adapt or perish. It was standing in Jose Marti park, technically "on Cuban Soil" when I finally decided to make the pilgrimage to the island.
