I got a cab of the PLPC too and was wondering the same thing

I didn't actually pull the trigger on the PLPC. Almost :) If you get a chance please let me know how they turn out. I am looking to add some PLPCs to my collection as my (stellar) 2014s are running out. I've tried singles in the past year and so far nothing has come up to standard. Those on the 24:24 looked perfect, I'd be interested to know how they taste.

I'll let you know in 4/5 years! I am working through the remnants of a 2012 cab of pcs and a abr 14 box of the MCs. The PLPCs arent bad young, but they develop sooo much in just a few years, that I almost feel like im doing them/myself a disservice by not waiting.

Heh heh, maybe too late to affect my buying decision then. You have a lot more self control than me not to try one ROTT :)

So this thread is a list of everyone who beat me to the PLPCs last night! :)

The main codes for Por Larranaga Petit Coronas in the recent past have been EML 2014/15 and TOS 2015/16. Both of these are La Corona.

To the OP...most likely it is La Corona, but that will only be confirmed if we see the usual suspects (Cuaba, SCDLH) start popping up with the same code.

Yes, exactly. I was wondering if LEP is the new La Corona code, or something else.

There appears to be date overlap with LEP and TOS, and it's fairly well confirmed TOS is La Corona, so it looks like LEP is something else. And I don't believe HSA has ever overlapped codes for the same factory.

Right, wide overlap. LEP is certainly not a new code and not LC.

Interesting.  What else are you guys seeing with the LEP code?  I have not noticed it before, but I haven't been checking anybody's lists or paying that much attention.

Have you guys seen any PLPC in recent years that were not TOS/EML/AME?

Yes. About a month ago El Pres had some clearance stock of Por Larranaga Petit Coronas with various box codes, TOR, MEG, TOS, EML. MEG is H.Upmann so what is TOR?

Also, Por Larranaga Picadores came up recently with an EOT box code, which incidentally is the same as a Cohiba Siglo IV box I picked a little while ago (perhaps 12 to 18 months ago).

I have TOR box codes on 2016 Du Prince boxes if that helps.

Yes, likewise, one from late 2015.

Thanks JohnS!  I must have missed that one.  I was mistakenly under the impression they were only produced at La Corona.

Did a little research, and yeah I also see LEP used on a handful of marcas, in small numbers...I agree with NSX & Fugu that this appears to be produced somewhere other than LC.

As an aside, how are the early (ENE-MAR) 2015 PLPCs?

I can't speak to that from direct experience but I have some sublime mid 2014s and El Pres said in his post on 2016 cigars to avoid:

"l love this cigar. It is only on this list because quality in 2016 was obviously down compared to 15 and 14 which were great years for PLPC."

So based on that they could be pretty good I would guess.

I'm aware of Monte 3 10s and Monte 4 & 5 petacas with the LEP code as well as PSD4 25s--all of those being big sellers with two of those being Cuba's two best-sellers and made anywhere and everywhere.

LEP doesn't seem to be a real high volume code, however. If it were a Havana factory I think it'd be far more prevalent.

They could just smoke fine now. Lot of mongrel instead of caramel. But if you are into the caramel build up then 3-4 years is what I would wait. My AME 13 is just getting there slowly...

Just wondering why a single factory can't have more than one code? I mean, why can't la corona release boxes with TOS and LEP?

Because it is a "factory code". I.e. a code to indicate the factory (of boxing, not necessarily of manufacturing - but that's another story... ;)), not a code to indicate a certain production line or production run. That's how it has been handled in the past - one factory, one code at a time. But who knows which ideas they will come up with in the future. Nothing is for sure.
