Popular Post rhcolbert Posted March 7, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 7, 2017 Not boli gold medals, but was cleaning up and organizing. Found the parti sd4 10 count box I stashed some one-off regionals and LE in. Hitting that 2005 RyJ this weekend. Only had that smoke once and remember it being amazing. Knew it was somewhere, glad I found my secret stash! 6
Guest Nekhyludov Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Beautiful! That certainly makes the organizing well worth the effort.
Corylax18 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Where were these when Rob was looking for Mold/Bloom/Plume cigars?!?!? Pure gold is right!! I think they may have found all the answers in just one sample. Seriously, nice find though. That Por Larranaga is making my mouth water. I have a couple old cabs filled with layers of cigars separated with dividers, its always fun to finish a row and uncover whats in the row underneath.
rhcolbert Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 If I was to send rob my plume cigars, it would be over half my humidor! Lettin em rest while I took a cigar break post 2010 for several years has certainly brought it about!
Booyaa Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 What a great find! That Monte Sublime looks.. well, sublime!

To me, they all look like lost causes unfortunately. Ah the plume mold debate of t being good or bad. All brushed right off with a gentle touch
rhcolbert Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 3 minutes ago, SenorPerfecto said: It's true, there is a debate. But this is mold, my man, 100%. If it's not in the foot, you can probably smoke them and be fine. But if it's gotten inside the cigar and you draw that into your lungs even secondhand, you are risking your health. Grab a magnifying glass and look at the mold. It will have a stringy or stalk-like structure. That's mold. "Plume" if it exists is crystals. The fallacy that if it wipes off it is plume, is just that -- fallacy. Mold will wipe off very easily in almost all cases. But you can't wipe the inside of a cigar. You will see no crystals here. Time to check the feet! 2
TheGipper Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Got news for the "OMG don't risk inhaling a single mold spore!" crowd... http://www.atlenv.com/mold-its-everywhere/ Mold spores are everywhere in small quantities. Almost everyone will inhale small quantities of mold spores throughout their life, both indoors and outdoors. It's just exceptionally high levels combined with long-term exposure that can lead to problems. And I suspect there are few better ways to eliminate a mold spore than setting fire to it. 3
Popular Post rhcolbert Posted March 7, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted March 7, 2017 Pls ship any cigars you fear smoking to peachtree city, Georgia. I'll decipher their safety ? 7
polarbear Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I thought it was mould when I first saw it too, FWIW That being said, a mouldy cigar has never stopped me. Plume/Mould, who cares. I just wipe it off and smoke it anyway I've found that if there is mould on the feet, it can make the cigar taste quite bitter and sour when lit, but I just snip a couple MM off the foot at a time until I hit clean tobacco I'd rather have a cigar with a little mould on it that one that is dry AF. At least you can wipe the mouldy stick down and dry box it for a while where a dry stick will never be what it was regardless of how long you re-humidify it for 4

And enjoy. White mold I could care less tbh. One thought though is to go one step further and dry box out of a humi for a couple days.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I've seen guys torch a whole desk top full of sticks all cause a couple got too close to the humidifier and wound up with mouldy heads. Couldn't talk them out of it. Some people are too paranoid about mold, IMO Even if you find a REALLY mouldy stick, wipe it down and let it sit on top of the humidor for a few days. Then try and smoke it. If the mould is really bad, you'll know due to the taste and then you can toss it. 1
ThePolskiOgorki Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 I don't know that my collection will ever be large enough that I will ever be surprised to find special cigars I forgot about in a random box somewhere in my humidor. Cudos to you for that, even if they are a little furry. I guess it would feel kind of like finding a couple $20 bills in your pocket you forgot about. Definitely a good feeling.
Dave001 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 what you found definitely was not gold but unfortunately mold hopefully you were able to save some of them??

vinnyvega Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 If the PL draws well that is the best cigar in that box. Amazing! !! Enjoy!!
JoeyGunz Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 What RH are you running at? I'd be having a serious look at my storage situation but each to their own. 2

Rest of the smokes are looking fine. I think the box they were in was the issue. This box sadly for buried and hadn't been opened since at least 2012-2013. Was gone overseas and the wife was in charge of the humi for over six months (in summer as well). Not sure how the mgmt was during that time. My issue is temp rather than rh. My house sucks for a good humi spot. Always too damn hot upstairs and downstairs fluctuates way too much. Downstairs would be better but with the constant flux of kids in the house I really don't want my smokes in a high traffic area either. The struggle! 1
wabashcr Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 It would take quite a bit more mold than that for me to throw away a cigar. To me, those are all fine after brushing off the mold. I wouldn't even think about pitching any of these. If you can adjust your settings, obviously that would be ideal. Mold is just part of the game. It's a little more dicey when it starts to work its way up the foot, but as @polarbear said, you can always clip a bit off the foot until you get to clean filler. 1
andy Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Brush them off and clip the foot a little and they all look ready to smoke. Enjoy your bonus sticks 1
Pharmacovigilant Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Can't tell if that's plume, bloom or shroom...

DBNInc Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Great stash! I love surprise cigars. I have a box of the RyJ 05 I've been wanting to dig in to, but I always grab something else for some reason.
