Cep Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Living in Toronto its bloody cold right now and today a normal slight wind. I don't know why but wind really hates me. I ended up not getting a proper light on my du prince. Tunneled. Kept trying to touch up the wrapper but it was just gone. Ended up ripping off some from the top. Man the tunnel went deeeeep. It infuriates me when this happens. I was cursing myself the cigar the wind and the world. And it's not really that rare of an occurrence for me. I'm a year into this hobby I have a ton of boxes and I'm scared I'll never be able to properly light a cigar especially when there's a breeze. As they say, bloody hell.

Baldy Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Wind is bad for cigar smoking anywhere in the world and I suspect even on Mars. Get out of it if you want to enjoy a good stick. Calgary gets our fair share of wind, especially when the Chinooks rolls in. Garage and cars are good for getting out of the wind. If you don't have a garage like me, find cigar smoking friends who do and who like you enough to invite you over.
Cep Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 I hear ya's sucks living in a condo now with the gf. No smoke allowed. Only a couple local friends (the way I want it) but no smoking friends. I'm a bit of a loner though would be a bit of a chore to have to hang out with someone every time I want a cigar lol. My only chance is one day wayyyyy in the future I can get another house with a basement or something. I'll probably be like 90 though. At least all my cigars will have 50 years of age on them. 2

Not having a garage and being one of strange sleep patterns and one who like to have cigars at odd hours, I investigated building a shed, renting a garage, even buying a house. I settled on a nice smoking place. I settled on a cheap car as my smoking shed. Cheap as in donor, $0 cheap but still fully functional and mechanically sound. I smoke in it, trash it and sometimes even attempt to clean it. When the other family member bitch about it I remind them that they have their own space to do with as they wish. Where there's a will there's a way....with some effort of course. 3
Mycroft Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Wind is not good, but are you sure that is causing the tunneling? I sometimes smoke in a breeze and haven't seen this. Actually I thought wind had the opposite effect. Maybe the temp/humidity outside are a factor. Perhaps some kind of condensation effect making the outside of the cigar wetter than the inside? You might try acclimatizing the cigar more gradually to the outside conditions before smoking. Not sure the best way to do that. Maybe wrap in a towel and leave outside for an hour before smoking? I don't know if this would help, but might be worth trying.
Cep Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 In this case, the wind caused my torch to not go where i wanted it to go.... burned the same spot too much. I do SUCK at lighting cigars. But, I just had a RASCC outside and it lit and burned perfectly Tasted great too!
