Jbhunter223 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I've been working my way through the marcas, and am looking to get into HDM. PC are my go to size so I'm split between these two. Just curious of those who've had both which do you go for and why? thanks! -Jayme
shlomo Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Not a big fan of either. They do not stand out in any way for me. Not bad cigars at all, just kind of boring. I would start with the du prince as they are discontinued and will get harder to find as time goes by.

jschrader510 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 The du Prince are very popular on the forum (and were just discontinued). I personally like them quite a bit and would recommend trying one of those first. That being said I've never smoked a coronation so I can't give you an unbiased opinion.
Corylax18 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 They are very different animals. Im not home, so I cant post a side by side pic. But the coronations have much darker wrappers and a more rustic appearance. To my eye, I also seem to see more dark ligero leaf at the foot of the Coronations, but this may not be the case for all of them. The prince seems to me to be a PC that was blended to matched the HDM profile, I taste little to none of the core HDM profile in the coronations. More like a rustic, stronger RYJ flavor. Both have a spot in my line up, and the coronations tubos are perfect for carrying around all the other PCs I smoke.
Jbhunter223 Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 I'll also add I'm not dead set on these, if there's a better HDM option in a similar format I'm always open for suggestions!

I agree. The Princes are fine, but don't really stand out with so many other PC options. Try the du depute. I think it's a better HDM option in a slightly smaller format. 2
FLB03TT Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 HDM Epicure Especial is a winner. It's a Gordito, but well worth a try. One of my favorite HDMs.
dominattorney Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Epicure deluxe is my favorite smaller cigar of that marca. Not a small ring gage, but shorter. It's well worth a taste.
subport Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Not a huge Hoyo fan myself but the du prince just go fine on an easy morning with a cup of coffee. Would definitely buy it (want to get another box or two myself as well) before they're gone...
SticksAndSticks Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 I'm partial to the hoyo blend but something I really like about the Du Prince is to me they are Cream and Spice without any sweetness at all. It makes for a really interesting taste. Other creamy smokes i've found tend to not have the same dry-ness to them while the Du Prince always conjures images of drinking heavy cream in a walk-in humidor.
Mycroft Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 I haven't tried Coronations and had mixed results with du Prince in the past BUT du Prince was on El Presidente's best 13 list at the end of 2016, and the TOR Jun 16s I picked up on a 24:24 are exceptional so far. And since they are discontinued I would say the du Prince for sure if you can get 2016s. I definitely want more if I can get them.
Jbhunter223 Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 Thank you for all the input everyone. It looks like I procrastinated a little too long, all my normal retailers as well at the international store here are out of the Du Prince. I'm thinking I'm gona go for one of the samplers here instead to help me try some things I would otherwise avoid.
