It seems like it's the in thing these days to picture yourself smoking them with a shinny grandfather cock on your wrist too.

I actually think these might not be all that bad. Whist it's not an 'ideal' size its not too bad either. I think they'll smoke different to a short Robusto, they're closer to a cut down Corona Gorda. If the price is right I'll possibly give them a try.

I still think they should be called 'Short Churchills' as they truly are a short Churchill.

Half Churchill would be more fitting given the lenghts ;)

We are a bunch of hypocrites - all this griping about big RG and high prices and yet the 24:24 sells out in minutes, even on the ridiculous Mag 56 and that LGC RE APAC.

I'm just as guilty, BTW.

This is true. The two cigars that are my biggest pleasures are the Juan Lopez Malecon and Trinidad Vigias. Even though they are fat ring gauges, they are out of this world delicious. It's disheartening to see all larger RG's, but I am not in control of the industry...

Well, those may not necessarily be the same people. FOH is as heterogeneous a bunch of smokers as possibly can.

[And don't forget, we have a high percentage of those "big-is-better" obese 'Mercians on board.... :hole: ok, I kid, I kid...:clown2: ]

I thought I was a "no more than 50 RG" guy, but then the Mag56 comes out and is spectacular, and I sigh.  And though I hate the size, the flavor and quality win the day.  What makes this agonizing is that the wizards at HSA simply look at sell-through numbers and think that the Large RG Strategy is working.

I'm a sub-50 RG guy as well, but at the end of the day I'm a great cigar guy, and if 56 RG were the cigars that were smoking best, you can bet I'd have them in my humi. Fortunately, the Mag 56 is a rare exception to the large RG rule. I find most of them inferior to the classic RGs.

I think I've said this before in another topic, but I'll say it again. You're mad. :D

You are right - he is mad...:jester:  But I somehow have to back Lotusguy: The (few) Mag 56 I smoked were good, but nothing special. It rather appears to me that this cigar mainly lives on the effect that folks are just positively surprised how good it is despite the format.

The format - as in the CRS, the new Trinidads etc. - comes to the fore to an extent that it makes it an unpleasant smoking for me, as good as it might be tastewise. But, as they say, different strokes for different folks.

Could be, and I generally gravitate towards thinner RGs myself as I find anything above 52 is a bit much, but that really was not the case for me with the Mag56. I'm generally a big fan of Upmann, and I found the Mag56 brought to the table that mix of sweetness, cream and woody flavours I love about Upmann, but with a lot more intensity then any other vitola in the marca, including the SW or Monarchs, and that's why I bought a few boxes, despite the relative high price. That being said, if they used the same Mag56 blend to make something like an Upmann Lancero... I'd probably need a new wineador just to stock up on it. :lol3:

PS: I'm glad we at least agree regarding Lotus. :rotfl:

True, but no point now, I handpicked the best boxes I could find (and afford), so unless I find additional good quality boxes at a big discount, I'm all stocked up on the Mag56. ;)
