Popular Post canadianbeaver Posted February 14, 2017 Popular Post Posted February 14, 2017 At a family home in San Diego for a few days. Even picked up a few NC's to bring back old times. Learned a new bourbon fact: "Another term you might see on a bottleis Bottled-in-Bond or Bonded. This means the bourbon was made at a single distillery, by one distiller in one distillation season, aged for at least four years in a federally bonded and supervised warehouse, and bottled at 100 proof." HarveyBoulevard Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Such a lovely city. I'm about 90 miles north but heading down this weekend to see my in-laws. Enjoy your stay! What part of the city/county are you in? Jeff 1
Danimalia Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 San Diego is a most excellent city. Just one of those places that's a pleasure to be in. When I used to drink, I loved all the great craft beer spots down there. There are a few FOH members from that area as well. I usually enjoy crossing the border and hitting the LCDH, the racetrack/casino, and a few of my favorite restaurants on the Mexican side when I'm visiting SD as well. 1
canadianbeaver Posted February 14, 2017 Author Posted February 14, 2017 Driving around San Clemente right now. We were in high hills earlier that were gorgeous. Looking for a nice hang out spot now to smoke a couple of RA 2013 Pyramids. 1
stogieluver Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I don't know much about bourbon or whiskey, but I do know that my bourbon loving friends love anything "bottled in bond". Must be some good stuff. 1
PlatypusMaximus Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 YELLOW SPOT! Forget the bourbon!Spent a couple of weeks in Ireland last year golfing the Southwest corner of the country. Was an amazing trip and beautiful country. And while I tried and tried to understand the love for Yellow Spot, it just never blew my skirt up ... so to speak. Lol. Either my palate isn't refined enough to appreciate it ... or my palate demands something far more bold. Either way, I'm a bourbon man for sure! Much deeper, darker and bolder for me. But I guess that's why there are so many liquors to choose from. Cheers!Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk 2
canadianbeaver Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 We were in Ireland last year too. That is where I lost my heart to Yellow Spot. Cannot get it in Canada. But this urge is satisfied. As for bourbon, in love and drank two glasses of the Old Forester at the restaurant we went to last night and LOVED IT. Have now traveled up to San Francisco. Our host has a special store in mind for me. Might not be until tomorrow night or the next day. I shall report. CB
2skinny Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Bottled in Bond was started because bourbon distillers, distributors, whoever, were watering down bourbon. Bottled in Bond meant that it had to be 100 proof to prevent problems with watering the bourbon down. 1

Their new San Francisco store is supposed to be awesome. I always go to the Redwood City store since it's closer to me. 1
dangolf18 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Yea K&L is the place to go. You should grab one of their Four Roses store picks. 1
canadianbeaver Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 The store my friend wants to go to is Clement and 12th... mostly beer and whiskey. Called Healthy Spirits? We will check out K&L too. Thanks. I shall report. CB
JohnnyC Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Glad to here you enjoying life Lisa. And I am with you in regards to Yellow Spot. My Son brought me a bottle from California a few months back and I loved it. Of Course I have a soft spot for all whiskies. If only I could convince the LCBO to love whiskies as much as I do then maybe they would carry a better variety. Or maybe I will keep bugging the Politicians ( in Ontario ) to privatized the LCBO's and at least IO could get what I want. Okay my little rant is over. Enjoy your Holidays Lisa. 1
canadianbeaver Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 For the heck of it OX Fuente Fuente. Nice park bench smoke I guess but I see a box is going for $400-$500 USD. We paid $18. Petit corona or even smaller. Different smoke experience in travel, ok. Sitting near sign that says no smoking. Better. Told drunk dude who wanted to chat, sorry I am working. Best. 2

canadianbeaver Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 Here's a surprise find! In the Fairmont Hotel San Francisco, a fellow with a similar name to us, Bruce Rothenberg, owns a cool store: Vendetta Men's Apparel and Vintage Cuban Cigars The Fairmont San Francisco 950 Mason St. San Francisco, CA 94108 415 397-7755 We chatted for a while about cigars, lighters, cutters and clothes. He remembered talking to me last year by email and how I was an illustrator. Nice guy! There is even a little spot to smoke at the back. The Fairmont has a bar downstairs called The Tonga. Apparently a place you "should go to before you die", says a site online. Not open just yet but we are waiting... CB 1
gmoney Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I see is display says "pre embargo". If so I'd imagine they cost a pretty penny. Or does he use that sign to keep the heat off him for selling post embargo goods.?
canadianbeaver Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 They costs hundreds and thousands. But shhhh... here is where we are now 2
