As far as the rest period, I would point you to the following thread we just had on the topic: Were it me, I would try to let incoming cigars rest for 1 month minimum. Yes, people sometimes do have good luck with less rest, but at least that month in my 65 deg F / 65% RH humidor really seems to increase the odds that they'll be "themselves".
