El Hoze Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 The size/profession post got me thinking. What does your cigar collection "look like" in terms of how many marcas/vitolas/themes you have going on, especially for guys who have been at it a while? I have begun collecting boxes and have begun to migrate to a few brands, sizes. In particular lots of HU, Cohiba, Hoyos but also have begun buying Bolivar CG and Lusitanias and have been focused a bit more or larger cigars...I'm pretty spread out. But I've also just started to stock up on mulitiple boxes I like. I was wondering how many of you guys with large collections manage them in terms of how "diverse" your core collection is (not talking singles but boxes, multiple boxes, etc.) and has it gotten more diverse or more focused over time? I have heard comments on here about how guys might have 10 boxes of a certain cigar and am wondering what this addiction "really" looks like down the road and if there are commonalities. thanks for the responses and all of the great info this site provides!
chris12381 Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 I generally have 80-100 boxes on hand. Of that, I always have multiple boxes of my favorites and I replenish them before I run out. So, at least 5 boxes of Juan Lopez Seleccion No 2 (but picked up two 50 cabs in Havana a few weeks ago), at least 2 cabs of Punch Double Corona, 2 cabs of Ramon Allones Specially Selected and probably 2-3 cabs of Partagas Shorts. Oh, and a large stock of Hoyo Epicure No. 2 for the girlfriend. Also managed to pick up 6 boxes of Diplomaticos Excelencias in Havana so you can add that to the list. Take note of the fact that I buy in 50 count cabinets whenever I can. These are my regular rotation cigars so I buy in bulk, and I prefer the storage of a wooden box. I also never buy one box of anything. I've done enough "I wish I had another box of these" in my life that I don't make that mistake anymore. Now, there's a whole bunch of other cigars I have in multiple boxes but those are because they were once my favorite and are no more. Ramon Allones 8-9-8, Rafael Gonzales Lonsdales, Punch Black Prince, La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 2, etc. Those are to last me a long time. 3
MrGlass Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 @JohnS had a pretty good post on this earlier in the year in regards to the Marca breakdown: 2
James4226c Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I can only have about 30 boxes on hand and my goal this year has been to have at least 1 box of every current production brand so I could satisfy my sometimes one off cravings. I'm really close if it weren't for me having multiple cabs of PLPC 1
Baldy Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I like having a diversity of cigars on hand. How much depends on budget based on my current financial situation. In times of plenty I buy plenty and smoke plenty. During lean times I relied on the stash bought during times of plenty. I never get the "if only one on an island threat" as there's no cigar smoker I know that is limited to 1 and only 1. If stranded, alone, on a deserted island the last thing I'd be worried about is 1 cigar. Food, water, shelter and getting back to my diverse cigar collection would be my worry. Even though I don't generally care for NCs, I will keep a healthy stash of NCs for the occasional time that I crave or want a NC.
BrightonCorgi Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I use to try to be diversified in my collection, but now I know the handful of vitolas I like and don't really care so much which marca it is as long as the cigars are rocking. All I care about is a good box of cigars in a size I like. Churchills, DC's, Robustos, Belicosos, Corona, Lancero or Torpedo. Stopped chasing regionals and the like. 2

SaintMickey® Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I was ALL OVER the place for years. I am almost exclusively Robusto...with the exception of Belicosos and a box of PC's(RA,Bolivar or Monte) These are the usual suspects for me Hoyo Epicure No. 2, Bolivar Royal Corona, Saint Luis Rey Regio, Ramon Allones Specially Selected, Partagas Serie D. I know I'm missing out...I know I know.
garbandz Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Over the years I have tried most of the ccs available, now I only stock those boxes I enjoy in my rotation. There are the marcas like Upmann, Montecristo, Romeo, and Partagas that I not only have several sizes, but several boxes/cabs of each size. Then there are the onesy twosey marcas, and the Ive- got- none -of- these marcas. I have a balance of depth and variety so I do not get bored with the selection, and there is a section of my storage with 5 ers and a few singles for those odd times when I just want a change up. There are also a few discontinued items I am saving for when the occasion demands something special.........
Mattb82 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 90% Robusto here with a heavy weighting towards Coro, PSD4, HDM Epi 2, Conny A, 1

I know I'm missing out...I know I know. My favorite size is either Robustos or Pyramids. The problem is that a lot of my favorite cigars don't come in my favorite size. I will gladly buy a cigar slightly bigger than I like (SCDLH La Fuerza) or slightly smaller than I'd like (El Principe) if it is freaking awesome. In the end, size is a preference for me but not a deal breaker. 1
Dave001 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 my favorites are the longsdale lancero robusto and petit corona, coronas as well I don't do the limited editions but I do enjoy the regionals and I also keep a small 50 count humidor of NC's
stogieluver Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 I have no clue now that the CCW website crashed. I really hate it for them. My entire collection of around 1500 sticks and smoking history since March, 2014 was kept on the collection management section of the website. I downloaded a CSV file of the collection back in October, but for some reason I can't access it (not computer savvy at all). I always go through my collection mid year and year end to check the sticks for mold, etc., and to make sure my inventory numbers on the CCW system are accurate. I'm pretty sure the largest number of cigars are H Upmann's, but not by much. I have a very diverse collection of marca and vitola. Gonna have to figure out another way to track my collection.
Dave001 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 yea I feel terrible about the CCW site man that site was like the bible I know it will be back online soon enough something that great can never fade away
El Hoze Posted December 13, 2016 Author Posted December 13, 2016 Thanks everyone! I too used the site but I am not at the level where I've started to inventory my stuff. Though if a box went missing I'll bet I'd notice! I also am not too into the EL or regionals. Have had too many so-so experiences to get super worked up, but I love trying everything. Though I have been buying both aged boxes and newer ones to lay down, and knock on wood have had good luck so far on buying aged stock. In particular, I've had fun building so-called verticles of cigars I like. Have a few varied vintages of Cohiba Lanceros/robustos/Sig VIs, etc. and have enjoyed that as well. thanks again for the thoughts! much appreciated!
