I will call her once I get there .......

Will you now....i might not answer the call

Penang, Malaysia ticks all the boxes Rob. Tax friendly if you come in under the "Malaysia my 2nd home" scheme; it's an island so you're never far from the water; 24c-34c all year round. Plus the bonus

easy....the Carribean.  I'd buy a sail boat (at least 40 feet) and sail the islands from Cuba to St Lucia, down to Aruba then back up again.  Never staying on the same island for very long...but long enough to refuel, and stock up.    My favorite island and where I'd spend most of my time would be Antiqua.   I could do this for 5 years :-)

If the plan is only for 5-8 years then I'd just cycle through.  6 months in Cuba, 6 months in Cambodia, 6 months in Africa, 6 months in a destination with favourable weather, culture and lifestyle.  You only really know what works for you by spending some time there as a non-tourist at an AI.  Maybe after 2-3 years of doing this I'll find someplace that I'd want to spend longer at, then I'd tentatively plan on 2-3 years or longer.  After that I'd decide if I want to move my home base or keep the existing one.

A few friends moved to Belize, Mexico, Thailand, Los Angeles, and the Bahamas thinking that this is it for them.  After 8 months, they were back in Canada after realizing that being a tourist is completely different than living in a place.  Part of it is culture shock and part of it is that it's difficult for people to change and uproot their home base.  It's a factor of being old.

Phoenix Az - Not sure about taxes, but NO SNOW!!!!

Is that true?  Many, many years ago, on an around the world trip with my parents, we missed out on the Grand Canyon because Phoenix airport was snowed in.

Pres: my tuppence worth betrays my personal bias, but Switzerland is a wonderful country, and if you pick the right canton, taxes are low (Canton Zug is about the lowest, I think, Geneva pricey).  It's warm for about two thirds of the year, not too bad, and plenty of beautiful lakes to live by.  Seasons!  Snow!  Mountains!  Europe at your doorstep!  Brilliant public transport!  Clean, safe, civilised!

I decided to take my wife for her first trip to Phoenix/Scottsdale in 2013. She was debating before the trip, which swimsuit to wear. When we arrived, that morning it was 32 degrees Fahrenheit. 4 degrees colder than Chicago that day. She has never been excited to go back

Would have been extremely unusual....  It has snowed here a time or two, but all I can recall in the past 12 years is a light (and I mean light) dusting....  and that maybe twice in that time.  I'm not saying that the airport has never been snowed in, but not in my time here.  Now, north of here they get a ton of snow.  Flagstaff?  Loads.  Big ski resort 150 miles north of us.  And the GC can get hammered with snow as well.  Most winter days in the Valley are a lovely upper 50s, mid 60s kind of day, low 40s at night.

Mostly...

Now, if it were me, I'd probably go back home and get a boat, moor it somewhere on the intracoastal between Anna Maria and Bradenton or Longboat and Sarasota and live on it.  I'd visit family and friends I grew up with and fish til I couldn't stand it.

If you want the exact opposite come to Jersey. We have horrible property taxes, bad income taxes, high cost of living, and brutal winters. We are close to the water though ?

Checking all the "requirements" would be tough...

I've always said that stateside if I had the opportunity I'd have a house in Portland, Maine (Summer) and a House in the Florida Keys (Winter).  If I had won 200 million in the lottery...I'd probably have a 3rd house in Santa Barbara, California.

I ended up in Atlanta back in 1993 for a weekend and never left...I am not sure I'd ever tell anyone to live here but the Atlanta Airport will take you direct/nonstop to just about anywhere. Also the Florida panhandle is not that far away and we love Savannah and Charleston to the East...Top off that with some beautiful mountains an hour or two north so I guess it isn't half bad.

So yes move here...I'd love to hang out with El Presidente on a regular basis!

As for Malaysia, the best option is to live in Langkawi (zero duty on importation of tobacco or alcohol), and establish a Labuan Offshore Company whereby corporate tax is capped at a maximum of RM 20k (USD 4,500) per year for companies that sell abroad and not domestically in Malaysia.
