Which country gets the most special editions...and why do you think that is?

Spain only got their first regional in 2007, but they have had one every year since.

Imperial/Altadis does a lot for Spanish retailers though, providing packaging/incentives outside of what Habanos provides. Every year for the last few years there has been a ceramic jar produced containing aged cigars, two or three different travel humidors/cases for different vitolas and often a humidor produced for a specific vitola, there have been quite nice Partagas D4 and Hoyo Petit Robusto versions recently.

Usually, the humidors or travel cases are sold at no extra cost over what the box of cigars would normally sell for. The jars are sold at a nominal cost, that is, between 30 and 50 euro over what the cigars alone retail for.

Will be very interesting for many and a horror for others once the USofA gets added to that list.

Don't think we have to worry about that anytime soon, given the recent change in the political
landscape in US and the new FDA regulations that went into effect :(

UK and Germany were actually the ones that came to mind upon first reading this, prior to the statistics. APAC not surprising though a region, not a country....

What is the difference between Belgium and Luxembourg's RE and Benelux's RE?

To eleborate a bit on Rob's post regarding money. The regional or country distributor, say 5th ave or PCC goes to Habanos woith a request. "We want 60,000 109s, with this blend, in the diplomatico marca," for example. Then PCC cuts HSA a check for the entire run, and has "bought" the responsibilty of selling that particular cigar. They own it, get to market it and decide the price.

Now knowing how it works, it's obvious that the distributors with more money have more Regionals...go figure

It is basically rather a matter of the market size to be served and the acceptance (willingness) of the respective customer base to buy REs. Not necessarily linked to the capitalization of the importer, money invested is to be returned by selling that stuff. But a certain minumum volume will usually have to be ordered, which is easier to move, obviously, within larger markets. And still, even those are not immune to shelfsitters....

I would take a guess that Spain may not have the most RE releases but the volume is probably highest given the runs they do...

I knew that for Benelux but was unaware of a Luxembourg RE

There never was one for Luxembourg alone. Either all three or just Belgium and Luxembourg.

My mistake, I misread the post and thought he was suggesting a Luxembourg RE and didn't realize he meant Belux.

My personal beef about RE's (and I used to collect them like stamps ) is the perceived value of that red band.

So, for example, in almost anywhere each year, there is a box of 10 short Robustos selling for a ton of money from Punch, RA or LGC. Like souvenirs at Duty Free.

Give it a year, or on the spot between collectors and add 50%.

At first I was not even convinced they had different flavour profiles than their matching vitoli, but the brand story is quite serious about it. I have never heard of my Canadian BOTL's being part of a flavour profile quiz, making sure they tasted like rye and maple syrup :teacher:

I should know this but can other countries LCDH order other countries limited or RE?

I swear I was somewhere and they had other countries versions...maybe they can swap/trade/share? Sorry if it is an obvious question.

No, this is completely forbidden and never happens. :D I dont know how "official" the orders are, but they certainly get there hands on them.

Its actually a major bone of contention around here. Some hate when (for example) a certain European retailer walks into a Havana LCDH a couple days after the new Cuban regional is released and walks out with 2 or 3 mastercases of the regional while the regular Joes standing there watching the transaction are told they haven't arrived yet. They are on the shelves in Europe a week later for 2, 3 or 4 times the original price.

Others are OK with it, because it gives them a chance to try regionals from around the world that they may not have been able to try otherwise. I think it just feeds the "collector" culture, leading to more "demand" for all these ridiculous sizes and packages and deletion of longtime classics like Upmann PCs and BGCs.

Very interesting and I almost see both sides.  I am not one to over pay by any stretch of the imagination so most of these RE and LE never hit my mailbox.
