Keep an eye on your coolers. The issue is this. And I went through a long, head scratching process to figure it out, was that the temp guage for the unit is right next to the cooling fan. This results in having to set the temp of the unit way lower than desired temperature to actually achieve the desired temp. What this THEN results in, is a cooling unit that runs much cooler than the ambient temp inside the cooler in order to keep the cooler at the desired temperature...depending on outside ambient temps. My fix was to accept a slightly higher temperature for my cigars inside the cooler around 65 degrees. The issues is that if you have your cooler in a 70 degree house and try to get the ambient temp of the cooler down to 63-64, the actual cooling unit will have to be set at and run cooler than the desired temp. Condensation will form on the very cold thermoelectric cooling fins and suck the humidity out of the air. The options are to raise the temp a little until condensation stops, OR put your unit in a colder outside ambient place/room. The other option is active humidification that uses the condensation collected from the cooling fins to recycle back into the air.

This is what happened to me. I have the larger 300 count one. I love it now that I can run it in the basement and the outside ambient temp is much cooler. I don't have any of these issues anymore.

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer.

Smoke on!

Good advise and I am actually going to try to get to 66/67.  I noticed recently now that I got to 64 the cigars were noticeably "cooler"....I started to wonder about condensation etc. Thanks for the tip.

I measured my Whynter when I got home and could easily get 15 boxes in there with the possibility of 18.  Once you add cabs to the equation it gets dicier, but I'll measure that out tonight.

Morale of the story, but I already knew this....two Whynters isn't going to be big enough.

sin, now that's impressive, reminds me when I bought my first newair cc-300 I left all the shelves and drawers in little did I know back then, now all my coolers have just 1 shelf as well BUT... we all suffer from the cab dilemma what to do what to do oh yea buy more coolers LOL

Those CC-300 come with 4 shelves which no one needs.  All you will need is 1 or 2 per winedor.

I have been using the steel shelves that come with the 281 model - if anyone wants to sell (or trade cigars for) 2 of those shelves - I'd be most appreciative....

PM me.

Haha, thank you.  That cellar has officially been replaced by one I shouldn't have to replace for a while.  It's a large work-in-progress that's going to be done "hopefully" mid Feb.

Sin - how's that bigger 70 bottle compressor model working out for you?  It's like 2x the size of the Whynter.....

I've grossly underestimated my buying habits before didn't want to make that mistake again.  Honestly my best guess is that it will still only hold 80 or so boxes.

The Danby is rated 14.5 cu ft and your Whynter is 2.5 cu ft.

If you were able to fit 20 boxes in the Whynter, then you should be around 5x the space = 100 boxes.

Ah but that doesn't take into account cabs or the 1.5" the shelf maker is taking off for circulation.

1 cab (punch punch) = 3 boxes (height) and you can never fit 3 cabs side by side

not to mention I'm having one drawer for customs rolls.

sin, wow that's some major storage hopefully that one works out for you, that's going to need quite a nice amount of beads (probably around 12 lbs!!!)

you definitely have to keep us informed of your progress

good bet 20-25 boxes for $156 airtight with cooling - how can you beat this?

You talked me into it.  My humid summer temps have me concerned.  The issue is, I already have 20 boxes to put in it, so I will soon need another.   My new issue:  what to do with my Coleman Extreme 150 quart cooler that I paid $70 for back in May?  This is nearly 1/2 the price of the NewAir AW-281E.  Too bad I didn't know about this great price earlier.

That Coleman is a great value - you get the green one from WMart?

i'm sure he'll use active for that size...the accumonitor is working great in my tower...

Twin humidifier from aristocrat + 4lbs of heartfelt is the plan so far.  Right now dehumidification is the issue, but there are no shelves or boxes.  I have a 2 month wait and see going on.

I think most of us make that mistake. And then we make that mistake again and again.

how are you going to pull in the AC power?  are you drilling through the back or bottom or the Aristocrat has "ribbon" power cable like the oasis?

Drilled through the "shelf" that covers the condenser at the bottom and spliced the wires.  It was actually easy and I called Danby to make sure there wasn't anything in between the two.  That whole process took about 10 min and was my first time doing both.
