The JFK dilemma, you are about to sign an embargo on Cuba, only you know this is about to happen.  So you send Perrie Salenger to get 1500 H Upmann robustos.  So JFKs choice was H Upmann robustos, mine would be Punch Punch.

I think that might take away the pleasure of cigars but I'd go with Hoyo EE

I have to admit that I agree with John and Fuzz on the HdM DDs if I can only have 1 cigar.

Young - good flavours, mild and creamy

Aged - this is where the magic happens, you could not buy enough of this stuff.

Why? Why would you stop when it is sweet with honey notes, creamy and pairs with almost any aged spirits.

Minor nit...Petite Upmanns. But it is my understanding that collecting a wide variety of different vitola, in a wide variety of marcas, is a fairly current phenomena. Back then, I've heard, folks stuck with a particular cigar or two. I'm guessing that there were collectors, but us common folk were much less varied in our tastes.

I think you're very right about this. I would never have thought about a maintaining a well-rounded humidor in the mid-90s. When I first started getting into CCs, I tried almost every marca, and I settled on the few I liked. Boli, Partagas, Punch and RyJ. And I only smoked a total of maybe 6 different cigars. Only the RyJ Ex 4, Punch SS1/SS2, and Boli RC. Didn't care for any others, really. You didn't have to simply take what HSA gave you in those days. One could be very specific and stick to them. And honestly, I preferred it back then. Now, it's an endless hunt for whatever may be smoking well that month.

Did everyone start by picking by Marca or Vitola?

As I said my forever cigar is Bolivar RC...I started with Bolivar and tried every size and robusto just "fits" what I am looking for. Almost exclusively robusto and almost always reach for a BRC...at a rate of 10-1.

I find that I can age just about everything except the RC because I keep smoking them. I have been disappointed by so many others because of this one sidedness.
