rxavier1979 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I recently got a box of the LGC MDO4 from a 24:24 and absolutely love the flavors. I've heard great things about the No. 2 and loved the idea of the MDO in a thicker RG. I've also heard(read) rumors that the MDO line is being phased out. Do you know if there are any plans or signs of MDO 2s being sent out of Habana any time in 2017 or are they as good as dead?
Bulldog4 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I know in cuba I didn't see any at all and very few mdo4s.. I think the 2 was discontinued or atleast seems like it.
JohnS Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I wouldn't say dead (yet)! The La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.2 is a seasonal cigar that goes in and out of production, like the H.Upmann Sir Winston. I'm hoping for it to come back (and soon), along with the aforementioned Sir Winston and Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo des Dieux. Alas, last season was a poor crop, and it's not just these cigars that have been missing, other regular production cigars have had suspended/cut back production too (i.e. Cohiba Siglo, El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme, Saint Luis Rey Serie A, even Diplomaticos No.2 for a little time etc.). 1

Well, I look at the vitola itself, the dalias (43 ring gauge x 170 mm) have all taken a hit haven't they? Where have the Partagas 8-9-8's and Cohiba Siglo V's been lately? Drastically reduced to non-existent for awhile. Thankfully, we've seen some Partagas 8-9-8 on some recent 24:24 listings, but only some. I'd love the Cohiba Siglo V to comeback to full glory soon too! 1
NSXCIGAR Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Have we determined when the last time anyone's seen the MdO2? It's been a long time AFAIK--much longer than any of the above-mentioned seasonal cigars. It's also the size (along with the Corona) that HSA loves to cut. I seriously fear this one has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. HSA is more than willing to reduce a marca to one model (Dip).

finecigar Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 To me, MdO 2 is one of the best habanos. Lovely size and it always delivers in a full bouquet of flavors. It shares some similarities with the 4, but stands on its own in terms of complexity. Never had a poorly constructed one- whereas with the no 4 I've often found too tight of draws or too loose (sometimes, but LGC doesn't suffer like other marcas). I would invest in a few boxes of no 2's. I have a vertical of the last few years I am aging and Wow! the 13s and 14s are outstanding. Truly savor them - they stand up to the LE's and RE's out there
Franko Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 From what I know there discontinued, but I have saw some around at a premium price if u see them pull the trigger, no wait lol
Popular Post Smallclub Posted November 30, 2016 Popular Post Posted November 30, 2016 The Médaille d'Or No.2 has become the most overated cigar. It had very few fans when it was readily available, but now that it has almost disappeared it has become a favorite of the forums… To me it's a good cigar, a great vitola (dalia), offering nice flavours but often suffering from a lack of spine… 5

I've been wanting to get a box of those for the longest time. As for the Dalias, haven't the Monte #1 been pretty stellar this year and if you include 38-40 guage there's been a reasonable supply of Cohiba Lanceros, Monte Especiales, various petite coronas

The question is, why appear like you are going under in 2012 and becoming so special, then re-roll in 2013 or 2014? Sorry, don't remember the exact years, but moved my passion elsewhere, like to Partagas 898.
Optic101 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 A favorite and wonderful with some age on it. Last received was ULA JUNE 14. Patiently waiting for them to come back and enjoying the one I have. 1

It vanished a few years earlier and I only have one left. If only they would bring those back. I prefer the 4 to the 2, but the 2 is still better than so many other regular production and special release smokes. The QdO Imperiales is the one I don't understand. It was another cigar that was always collecting dust on the shelves and now demand/pricing has skyrocketed. The Imperiales never impressed me, but it has some serious followers. Taste is very personal. For some, hard to find tastes better. I am guilty of this at times.

All others I've had from mid 90's to early 2000's were nothing more than pleasant cigars. The #4 has always been my favorite of the line... with the #1 a close second. It's the first cigar I've ever bought multiple boxes of. They have much more substance. Unfortunately, the newer blend doesn't resemble what I seek out. Like many other cigars, butchering the line and limiting releases has stimulated popularity.

My favorite is the No.3, but I confess i was partial to this vitola (ERDM Elegantes & Panetela Largas, RG Slenderellas)…
BonVivant Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Love all La Gloria Cubana - Medaille d'Or series and Tainos - don't think the brand works in thicker ring gauge than 47 - no idea why 2

Perhaps true, the effect can be observed, but not holding for this particular cigar. The Medaille d'Or No. 2 has never been "readily available", has always been a discontinuous production and has, like all vitolas of the series, always had a small but sound following. The current 2-yr hiatus - so far - is anything but exceptional. It's nice to see that more and more people seem to discover the beauty of those cigars, which can hardly be overrated when compared to the other surviving brethren of the vitola (actually, surprised to see so many likes for such a statement).
Duxnutz Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I love the #2 and I still have a few '99 and '02s in dribs and drabs, but I hardly ever reach for one. I can see why they pulled back production.
LGC Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 A box of '02s being offered on OLH. Only $685 A steal!!!
garbandz Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I would trade every cigar I have for MdO #2s. They have always been my favorite, and the few I have are Ultra-Special Occasion cigars.

I am sure you have one helluva collection Grear great smoke I really hope they haven't discontinued them. Recently offloaded a few and am already having some pangs of regret. Those 2013s are sooooo soooo nice....
