there are actually a group of three or four opera singers/actors who perform in australia - i've seen them several times - where they do big events but they are normal waiters and work as such for quite a bit of the event and then they get into an argument as one wants to sing and the others threaten to sack him (endless variations on this) and so he bursts into song and the others compete and it is all a great deal of fun. especially the first time you see it.
