I just had a Connie 1 that blew my doors off.  I haven't  had a Connie A yet. Are they similar in taste?

I am trying to decide which box to purchase and wondered if the Connie A justified the extra coin.

Please opine...

They're both Upmann, that's about where the similarities between them end. I enjoy both of them tremendously but the edge for me goes to the OR Connie A.9b959260422f1f35c8bd8831e2f95d7b.jpg

I feel like you get some of the same strong coffe notes in both. I have both and smoke them both. The A is definitely a bigger time commitment, can't go wrong getting both but the A would get my vote. It's just a beautiful cigar

Totally agree with you. I also enjoy and have both myself but the A is just Beautiful.

They have similarities, although I'd say the Connie 1 strays a bit from the current Upmann profile, while the Connie A really is spot on, very creamy and sweet. I actually find it quite similar to the (better priced) Mag50.

Opening up a PSP box of conny A is an experience. Not to say that the 1 isn't as well. But it's a wtf moment with the A

Nice to know Matt - I happen to have a Connie A on the way from last weeks 24:24...........

The Mag46 from 2014 are smoking really great right now also.

The pretty band and price will sometimes alter peoples perception. A blind taste test would be interesting. Although I've never had the A, I just can't see it being that much better.

Two different cigars IMO. I love them both :) I think they are two different HUpmann profiles...cousins in a way. Think of the Conn1 being grouped with the #2 and Mag46, and the ConnA being grouped with the Sir Winston and Mag50. The latters being longer in Seco, more refined...creamier, so to speak.

Second this.  I see Connie 1, 2 and Mag46 on same level, with Connie A, Winnie and Mag 50 on the next level.  Just MHO.

This. I agree with both analogies, you're spot on.

Likely in the minority here, but I far prefer the 1 over the A. Ignoring size (of which the 1 is more to my taste), I think the 1 just puts out a symphony of flavors and has a lot of character. The A for me is trying to be too many things at once and suffers as a result.

Of course, I'll take a PC over either any day.

I disagree. The Conn 1 and the Mag 46 can't be put in the same category - completely different cigars. Actually I think the Mag 46 was at the top of a category of lesser known (corona major and other tubos) or discontinued (Grand coronas, Amatistas) cigars — the “strong” side of H. Upmann.

Thanks for the replies!

I am new to Upmann so I am going to order a sampler.

This was full of cream and leather. It really hit me just right.

I agree with the above comments from most they are different beasts IMO.

Connie 1 having more savoury flavours like wood and leather and fuller bodied whilst the connie A a bit creamier and sweeter medium bodied. both great in different ways.

I agree with this analysis!  I like the Connie #1's and keep them in stock but the A's are awesome.  I just have a bit of a problem with the price point. ;)

One thing I keep noticing in the conny A is a wonderful sweetness that keeps hitting towards the end of the second third in the last few I've smoked. This follows the nice strong coffe I get in the first third and it's a great combo

Love the Connie 1's. That being said, I am six boxes deep in the Connie A's just based upon all of the feedback and have yet to smoke the first. I will revisit this post in a month after all the boxes have had a rest.

For me I have be very underwhelmed by my box of '12 connie the 1s.  They are well under medium body and are not complex enough for my tastes.  I have read that they take time down to develop body ( as strange as that seems to me) but after a nice rest the Connie As are hitting the notes that I prefer; Creamy, Nutty Upmann flavor with some sweetness that I enjoy.

Been using my connie the 1s for friends who dont smoke and want something light.

Now that's what I call blind investment! But don't worry, it really is a safe one. ;)

The A is more of a rich cigar and the 1 has been more savory and vegetal. (The 1 can even give some bell pepper notes). The A is a better overall cigar IMO but are best with a few years down...the 1 typically can be smoked after 1 year of age. Just my opinion.

Connie 1, to my palate, is a less complex, but ultimately very pleasant cigar.  Sometimes you want a cigar to be the focal point of your evening, and sometimes you want it to be there but be an attendee.  That's how I enjoy Connie 1's.

its not meant to be patronizing, I really enjoy them, I just like them for a day on the beach or by the pool.
