Fshaw Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Hi all, I will be in Hong Kong for a few weeks starting next Saturday and will be staying at the Mandarin in Central. I see there are a number of cigar shops/lounges not too far from where I will be. Would any of you be kind enough to recommend a few lounges / shops that I shouldn't miss while there? Also, if there are any stores that I should do some box hunting in, I would be grateful for that recommendation too. Thanks. 1
Sunsmoke Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Hi mate, i live in HK! As does @Joshtupps and @hughness. We frequently meet up for a smoke. Happy to invite you for a smoke any time and can give you the tour of our favorite spots! I'll be out of town from 28th Nov to 9th Dec, but can meet up anytime thereafter if still around! You are staying at the best hotel in town and it's got a cigar lounge right inside! The Cohiba Cigar Divan, Tiny spot but has everything you need. It's owned by PCC and they own most of the lounges in town. But I've also got a couple others worth checking out. Will PM you. 3
dcoy86 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 My favorite is the Pacific Cigar Divan in the Euro Trade Building. They have a nice little balcony and a great view! 2
PapaDisco Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 The Global Cigar Friendly Locations discussions has some Hong Kong spots: Right across from the Mandarin is Armani Prive and you can wine and dine there and since they don't sell cigars you're welcome to bring your own to fire up. Just a couple blocks away on Pedder Street is the Red Divan cigar lounge, one of my favorite spots in the universe. Also, there is now a very tiny cigar shop and tasting room in the Mandarin itself, but it's just a couple of seats, so not really a lounge experience. 1
ChefBoyRG54 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Ill be at the LCDH hong kong at the Sheraton in Causeway Bay in a few hours. Very good selection, some unique regional options if you dig, and a nice lounge area. Nothing super fancy, just relaxing

They do have some good boxes. Also on that side of the island is the Cigar Emporium on 8 Carnavon Road, just a few blocks from the Sheraton. Impressive collection of boxes, so great for shopping but a tiny smoking room so not much of a lounge. The Red Chamber/Red Divan on Pedder street also stocks a good box collection with a knowledgeable cigar 'sommelier'. Keep in mind though, that all of these places will be sporting HK taxes, so these boxes won't be cheap.

Someone i work with is buying me a box, which i almost feel bad about knowing he is overspending, but it was his gesture so im going to just go with it.I believe ive been to the Emporium in the past as well. Another nice option.

Yes, the new normal is that if someone brings you a box of sticks, totally plastered with Hong Kong anti-smoking labels prominently displaying diseased hobos in their final death throws; then you should realize what a huge sum the gift giver has spent and be appropriately impressed at his largesse. Whereas if that same person brings you a box from El Pres, properly inspected and devoid of defacing stickers you should give it the 'ho-hum' for his parsimonious spending!
