Cigars are like wine, everyone has their favorites. I would disagree with the Monte #2 as the construction has not always been so consistent but when they are good, they are wonderful. Never was a big fan of the Bolivar but a lot of people here like them with the BBF's getting lots of attention. The Epicure #2 is a great cigar, just had a '08 last night and it was wonderful.

Seriously worthless information.

They don't disclose the box date info, when the cigars were purchased or from whom?

Also, best Cuban cigars FOR 2017???  WTF?  Are they predicting the future or is 2017 a typo?  Did they mean 2016?

Aside from the glaring issues I have with what is written their selections, historically speaking, are solid.  My only issue is with the Mag 50.  I loved my boxes from 2009, but nothing produced since then (I have smoked 2011, 2013 and 2015) have come close to the epic 2009's.

Have you smoked 2014 and 2015 Mag50s? They're fantastic smokes, among the best regular production cigars of the past few years, IMO.

... there is no such thing as a professional smoker! There are only smokers and the opinions of smokers! (MHO)

With that said, I like the idea that someone (like most of us) that still believes that the Cuban cigar is still best in the world and is blogging about it. Yet, when I read something like '... Bolivar brand is producing the best cigars,' I believe that I am reading naive ignorance. There is no Bolivar brand, 'exclusive maker.' They are cigars rolled in various factories none of which have a brand 'allegiance' rolling any cigar they are directed to roll. Bolivar may be a brand name, but since it is not separate from any of the other nationalist brands, saying that 'the brand' produces anything is a reflection of the ignorance of Tabacuba and Cuban cigars! Nit-picky... maybe. I am just one opinon.

Piggy's 2 cents!

My one and only Mag 50 was disappointing. Then a fellow Colorado Herfer blessed me with an 08' from the original year of production. I haven't tried that yet but I am definitely looking forward to it.

Give it time to settle into your environment. I would hold off smoking until 60 days, IMHO. I have some at home, when I first got them, eh, it was good but not great but I smoked it right away. The second one was better but I had it longer by then. I had also lowered the Rh a few percent by then too.

You will like it; 2008 was a great year for the Mag 50.

I like to dry box mine for a couple days.  Some will say it is over kill, but it sure does produce an intense flavor experience. YMMV

For me, more an indictment on the Cuban cigar industry than any subjective review..........

^^^^^^

Sorry you got the bad ones.

My 2008 boxes have been great smokes; 2009 was not as good IMHO.

Even though I'm not into Bolivar either, based on feedback on our forum, you could argue that the Bolivar Coronas Gigantes and Belicosos Finos has had a good run in 2016. Who knows what cigars will be rated in 2017?

I've been enjoying the last couple years of BCG and BFF production.  My experience is hit-and-miss on the Monte 2's, and the Mag 50 I don't know all that well.  Have enjoyed the Mag 46 and the 56 (despite the size).  I would certainly put the BCG up for consideration, but the rest are just damn good cigars IMHO, not 'best of the year.'
