El Presidente Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 In your opinion what are the best of the following "Shelf Sitters". Which ones do you smoke? Which ones do you enjoy? Simply...I define a shelf sitter as a cigar that "ages gracefully" on the shelves of B&M's around the world. Demand is small to non existent. Hypothetically, If I were to give you $500 to spend (Aussies can buy in USD), what would you spend your $ on . You know the rough pricing give or take. Cuaba (any). Turbo56 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 One misplaced "h" in the title could be embarrassing... 2
... Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Cuaba and Partagas salomones for me. Love the vitola ?
JohnS Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 For $USD500 I would go for the following... 1) Cuaba Distinguidos (10) 2) Quai D’Orsay Corona 3) Rafael Gonzalez Petit Corona 4) Sancho Panza Non Plus I've enjoyed all these for a change-of-pace, on occasion. I could also go for the Montecristo No.3, but I figure that I enjoy enough of the other Montecristo Vitolas already and I've taken a liking to the Partagas Serie D No.6 in the past, but the price point is not as competitive with other offerings listed here. 1
dcoy86 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I'll take the D6. When my time was limited, I have had a few good ones. 1
PatrickEwing Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Monte 3 and RAG for me by a mile. Monte 3 is consistent with good flavours and lasts an appropriate smoking time for me. Though I can understand how it can be lost in the Monte lineup, it still deserves a more praise. Might be my go-to. The RAG is very confusing to me, on the other hand. The flavors are rich and the examples I've had have been constructed wonderfully. It's the only reg. prod. RA of any considerable size. Do the reputations of the other DCs or Julieta No. 2's outdistance the RAG by that much??
TheBaron Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I'd be on the Quai D’Orsay Coronas. Lovely, light and delicate. It'd be a real change of pace from my normal flavour bombs...

I have never tried it but the first box is coming in this week. Love the other examples of RA that I have tried.
Philc2001 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I wouldn't think of the MC#3, RyJ Beli and CdL#1 as shelf sitters personally, and if you gave me $500 credit I would take a box of each. If there was more money, I'd further splurge on PL Panetelas, Divinos and the RG PE.

Smallclub Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I'd spend the $500 on VR Don Alejandro and Cuaba Divinos. The RG petit corona and Quai d'Orsay corona are in my rotation. 1
Notsocleaver Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 If I went with the best prices I've seen in the past year, I could just barely get 2 boxes of Cuaba Salomnes and 2 boxes of QdO Coronas. One box of each plus a box of RAG would take me a hair over. Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro would the other box I took a long look at, but the high price point of those 25 count double corona boxes is what make me hesitate. I'd own a lot more VRDA and RAG if they came in 10 count boxes.
David88 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I would have to go for either the RAG, El Morro or VR Don Alejandro along with a box of distinguidos. it is interesting, although not sadly not surprising that there are a number of double coronas on the list. I had a number of different DCs over the summer and none of them failed to deliver.
ComancheKeen Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Give me it all in PLP and RGPE and I would be more than happy. Two of my go-to quick smokes.
zeedubbya Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Non Plus, D5 and RGPC. Should be about $500. 75 cigars all of which I really like.
Duffer Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Of these, I've only had the Cuaba Salomones. The examples of smoked were very nice and flavorful, so I'd choose them.
Lant63 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 PL pantelas, QDO corona, Party salamones next up would be VR DA, and SCDH El Morro
anjimj Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 PL Panateles RAG Don Allejandro. If I could find a box from 2002 that would be very nice. Considering that the only place I could find them was in a shop in Canada, I would most likely burn the $500 on just that box but I would be a happy camper.

Love the other examples of RA that I have tried. I wouldn't take my word too far on this question because the quality of the RASS I've had don't hold a candle to the RAG I own. That being said, I find the DNA similar, but the richness and depth of flavour to be outstanding with the Gigantes. I suppose I will pay closer attention to it next time I smoke one, but thick fruit, (if that makes sense) bits of earth and clean tobacco are how I'd describe the last one I had.
Bartolomeo Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 The TOS Cuaba Salomones the last 4 months have been excellent and I usually prefer the Partagas Salomones but these r worth checking out, fairly cheap too
Lotusguy Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 RAG and SP NP - both most certainly wouldn't sit on my shelf very long
