Too soon?

Anyways, 1.5 hours into my Lusi, I took a walk with the fam and hounds. Took the band off an notice a small bit of wrapper came off. Pea sized. Not usually a big deal. But the cigar has started to swell like a pretty girl walked in the room. And now it burst, quite dramatically.

Is this my fault or a construction issue?

Thanks in advance!884d6572201d60ca849a3756e8362ed8.jpg

Most likely humidity.  What was the rH and temp outside where you were smoking?

I have never worried about such an experience.  I had that happen twice yesterday, with two absolutely fabulous cigars.  I don't smoke for looks, I enjoy the hobby because of the incredible variety of flavors and the overall experience.  They all turn to dust anyway.

it looks like it was enjoyed and put away successfully.

Your cigar was not well made from a structural perspective.

When you removed the band, you likely took a bit of wrapper with it as some of the glue was likely stuck to the wrapper. When you put a hole in the wrapper, you breached the 'pressure hull.' In most cases, the "binder" is supposed to do this job, bind the filler. Yet if the binder is loose, the wrapper supports the structure. With both compromised, the cigar blows up!

It just happens. I would not look for environmental factors... JMHO!

I store cigars pretty dry and there is a risk to their structure as the binder and wrappers get become 'less' elastic. It is a risk I take, and this happens every now and again.
