Apologies to mods if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

ANYWAYS - I'm trying to build a wineador. I have the cabinet, hygros, and very kewl lights.

I ordered cedar shelves and a drawer from "wineador.com" - this was back in august. Nothing received yet. Emails are going unanswered.

Anyone here ever dealt with these guys? They were recommended to me on another forum - but now I'm beginning to regret this.

Cheers,

From what I have heard, it is a very long wait--like 4 months last I checked. That's why I built my own. The drawers are great but you will need shelves for boxes more. TRUST ME!!! One or two drawers and maybe one or two shelves, that's all you really need. Not as nifty looking as a wineador full of drawers but far more practical.

30 days from now you are going to have boxes rolling in every week.

Depending on your model, you can buy 3/8" Spanish Cedar boards on Ebay, cut to width and just do slat shelves.

Boxes rolling in every week? Are you saying he ships in bits and not all at once?

Credit card? This stuff is already paid for (hence my post) - including shipping.

Well, with the 24:24, there are only a handful of marcas and/or vitolas each sale. So you might have to wait a bit to get a box you want. This is actually a good thing IMO. Everything looks so good... I know I have to instill some patience and sometimes it is REALLY hard! If you order one box a week, then you will have one box a week delivered at your house. That's why I said that.

I believe in the store, it says that they tend to separate big orders into smaller ones for shipping purposes. My orders tend to ship towards the end of the 2nd week after I order. A bit longer lead time than say normal, but a Cigar Guru picks and grades your cigars for you.

I will take that trade-off any day of the week :)

OK - HurlTim misunderstood....he was referring to your buying cigars from this forum....

And you are referring to getting your cedar shelves from winedor.com.

I haven't bought from him but what I've heard is that the wait can be 2 months or more for those shelves/drawers.  And as Tim said - you only need 1 drawer and maybe 2 shelves.

I have the Newair 281 and I bought 6 of those very cheap spanish cedar trays for like $16/each and they work perfect...but I only need 2.  You can do some wood work on just 2 of them and combine them together to slide into the slots - there is a youtube video showing a guy doing that.  The bottom line is where is the winedor sitting?  If it's not where the wife sees it everyday i.e. basement then you don't need the fancy stuff.  And you need every inch of your space - those drawers take up way too much space because you will be buying boxes for aging - you will run out of room very quickly because the best way to age is in the box - not loose.

That I did apparently. LOL!

If I remember correctly it took about 3 months from purchase to shipping and I had two drawers and three shelves. But I'm really happy with mine.

The eBay suggestion works great just finished one for a friend.

Nice job - but do you think you left enough spaces between each of the planks for a good air flow?

From the picture they seem pretty tight together....

fans to assist because the humidor is so large ,it has 600 in it now and is 1/2 full and he said it it works great. Humidity sensors top and bottom, overall consistent humidity is goal. Occasional air movement to keep air from getting ko stale. Antique ice chest.temp.jpg

Nicely done!

I've ordered from Forrest before.  My advice is order half what you think you need, and it will take twice as long as he says it will. But the quality is tops.

i actually bought the identical wine fridge I originally had from Craig's list cause I was only using half the shelves and drawers I bought. Now I feel I need to get a 3rd cause I'd much rather have the room for boxes LOL.

I bought from Forrest 5 drawers and a shelf and it took forever. He was on another forum posting one excuse after the other. 4 months to get mine, the dividers I paid for were not in the box and he pretty much called me a liar. The quality of the build sucked too. I had to redo all of he drawers, rough sanding job, bad joints with glue blobs galore and the worst part was the fronts the looked like they were sanded with rocks. I paid extra for exotic wood fronts and while the wood was there the fit and finish was horrible. If I had it to do again I wouldn't. My guess is what I got was a set that was rushed out after I threatened to get my credit card company involved and file fraud charges. There is another gentleman listed on one of the other forums that takes limited orders but produces top notch work. If I run across his info I'll post it up.

I ordered my drawer setup from Forrest, paid the extra for the rush and got (almost everything) within 2 months. He missed the sachel of cedar and cigar tool which I got around to emailing  him about almost immediately and forgot about 6 months and sent a reminder, after which they promptly showed up. From what I gather he does not do this full time but as a hobby more so. I hear some guys send multiple emails, change their orders etc. Keep in mind the time he takes to answer all email inquiries is time he is not building. Everything was at or above standard with one exception. I ordered the Burl Wallnut style front finish. I was half expecting them to be maybe a smooth, high gloss finish and instead it was a rough veneer that almost seemed decal like. With that said I had my fan picked out and gave him the dimensions and he built a nifty custom frame for it to sit on in the bottom. I think some of the minor details like that, circulation, dew point etc (look up my post "dew point calculator), I have not had any humidity issues or had to even add water in over a year.

Walnut is large pored and burl is even worse. It really needs to be filled prior to finishing if you want a smooth, glossy finish.

We will all have different opinions about what works and what does not, what looks good verses what does not... etcetera! I resisted commenting on what I have seen on this thread for awhile now, probably because, as usual, folks will take my critiques negatively. That is not really the point of why I am posting.

Drawers and shelves of course have a function. However we are not storing stockings and panties in humidors!

The designs of drawers and shelves then become a blend form and function in a humidor setting. I prefer function.

Now my goal here is not to compare, but as usual to edify. Prior to adding drawers and shelves, I would suggest to anyone, please consider humidor function first, and drawer function second. Singles drawers are extremely handy, yet extremely problematic in a humidor (more specifically a fully controlled active humidor) that already has circulation problems. That is item number one and should be considered first. How well will your humidor perform both before and then more importantly after you install these shelves and other obstructions?

Next will be considering the space that they take. Most of you will not be storing 'gobs' of singles forever. As your tastes for certain cigars excel and wane, you will be wanting to purchase more boxes verses singles. The boxes become individual 'singles drawers' and allow for separation, containment and identification all on their own. As this happens all the 'blockades' that hamper the operation of your humidor just become more of a nuisance and a problem.

Me, I hate making shelves, and I don't use drawers. I would suggest singles 'boxes' instead. I will post a picture of one of my shelves.

The shelf itself to me is little about form, however I prefer a robust look. Call it 'Shaker Style' if you will. Since I no longer wish to make artisan woodwork (a waste of my time) I design what will come off the CNC with very little wood re-sawing and additional planing. The structure needs to be robust, and it needs to skeletonize to the least restrictive form. I therefore make them so intersecting members don't align vertically. I also design them to enhance airflow around the shelf. The shelf therefore does not block airways at the perimeter. The boxes will naturally block the center sections of the shelf, you have no choice, but any separation between boxes should encourage airflow.

I am not saying you have to like or emulate what I make. It is just a lesson hard learned about function over form! I will likely begin to pattern perforations in these members going forward. Structure must not impede air and water migration. The members should never "seal" the perimeter of the shelf to the cooler in any of the four perimeter sections.  JMHO! Yes, you could likely stand on one of my shelves!!! -LOL

For you woodworkers out there, this is 4/4 Spanish Cedar planed to about 840K.

This is a nice looking build.   There's an antique ice chest in a shop near me, very good condition, and I've considered getting it and doing the same....  Wondering how feasible it would be....   Looks as if it could store a lot of boxes!!

Hey

wondering how the thermo fan held up looks like a great idea to build a big cabinet humidor.
