spivey6690 Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I'm out of space in my cooler and need to snag one quickly. Any recs? Preferably something I could snag at a retail store.
xtcat9k Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I like the Igloo 12p qt Polar cooler. Flat bottom and smooth walls. Good hinges and latches which are upgradable to metal ones if you so desire.
irratebass Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Spivey Walmart has 120qt coolers for $54 right now. That's what I have...go get it!Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk 4
irratebass Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 It's a Coleman, sorry forgot to include that Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
Bohn007 Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I have a Igloo Glide Marine Ultra Cooler 110-Quart plus two 60 Quart Ziploc Weathershield Storage containers.
Mattb82 Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 If you want to go super high quality Icey tek is amazing. Perfect seal with a gasket and food grade insulation and plastic but they are expensive and have to be ordered.

I've found little difference in the seal, which is all you care about. YMMV

topdiesel Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 agree with the others. Go to Walmart and get the Coleman.
BarryNY Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Coleman Xtreme 150qt Green @ walmart $72.56 free ship - mail order only i think. The cooler is nice and squared off and has grooves in the long sides so you could stand it up on end slide in spanish cedar shelves and open it like a refrig....nice and organized.
archosaur Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I have the Rubbermaid 102qt, picked up at a Home Depot a couple years ago for around $50. It fits ~1,000 cigars.

My take, anyway

My take, anyway I have lots of problems but mostly they involve the purchase of cigars. That being said, the coolers are stored in the basement so the temp doesn't fluctuate that much but if I am storing $7,000 in cigars, the extra $50 didn't seem like a big deal 2

It had the metal hinges and I heard that there were lots of problems with the plastic hinges.
PapaDisco Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Which of these coolers need no seasoning to get rid of plastic smells?

Hedgehog Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Does anyone have any luck with these clear Weathertight Totes from Container Store? Clear with an airtight seal. Made from 100% polypropylene (like the Klipit Sistema containers) which is often used for food containers so I'm thinking there shouldn't be any odors. http://www.containerstore.com/s/storage/storage-boxes/clear-weathertight-totes/12d?productId=10026213
drsupremos Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Yes I use a coleman as well, they are fantastic

One with singles one for customs and one for overflow from the two wineadores and the Coleman cooler. They work great although I did add thicker weatherstripping. I don't recall any plastic scent when I set them up.

Switched to these: http://www.containerstore.com/s/storage/storage-boxes/clear-weathertight-trunk/12d?productId=10024301 The Totes are too easily deformed by stacking and lose their seal. Not a problem if you're in an environment with modest rH, but if you live in humid or dry conditions you'll use up your bovedas a bit quicker. The weathertight trunk has a better seal and much more rigid top so that you can stack them without deforming the seal. The ones that I'm using are stored in a fairly stable cellar (temperature-wise) and they keep bovedas functional for literally years. Both units need a day or two of seasoning and washing to get rid of the plastic smell.
