Nattyboh74 Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 So I was wondering something. When buying say custom or house rolled NC or CC cigars, how do you guys are them? I've seen some say store them in Ziploc bags with a Boveda, some say find some SLBs or boxes and throw them in your humidor. Some say build a larger Tupperdor and buy some cedar or plastic containers, even just leave them loose in your wineador and age them more opened, versus being contained somewhat. What I've personally noticed is that cigars that are aged in cab or SLBs most definitely has that great tobacco smell when opened. The same cigars stored opened in my wineador smell kinda musky and cedary but smoke great. Just no rich tobacco smell. Looking for pointers or your suggestions...
SloppyJ Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I'd put them in an empty cab if it were me. Just my opinion though.
Notsocleaver Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 First thing is to double bag them and put them in the freezer for a few days, just in case of beetles. After that they go in a spare cab. This can be tricky if they are unusually sized but a little trial and error can often times uncover something acceptable. 1
Philc2001 Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I'd smoke them while they're still smoking good. Then I would age the rest in a closed natural wood cabinet box, if there were any left.
earthson Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Definitely freeze for a few days (beetles). I put them in a ziploc - partially opened - in my coolerdor and try to forget them. Once I am certain the sick period is through, I pull out a couple at a time to sample.
Nattyboh74 Posted September 26, 2016 Author Posted September 26, 2016 Thanks guys. I'm going to look into freezing them. Never done it, gonna look it up

Nattyboh74 Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Looked em up. From what I've gathered, double bag, remove air, 12 hrs fridge, 3 days freezer, 12 hrs fridge, 1 day counter then into humidor. Right? 1
Notsocleaver Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 good summary. Just be mindful that your freezer actually gets cold enough to kill the beetles.
Puros Y Vino Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 After freezing them, I wrap mine in Saran Wrap twice over. Some I put in jars or in SLB's when they fit.
