Cigars in Beijing, Chiang Mai and Bangkok

Recommended Posts

I'll be celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary with my beautiful soulmate on our first epic vacation without our kids since we married. We'll be spending 5 or 6 days in all three cities; Beijing, China will be our first stop, then off to Chiang Mai, Thailand, followed by Bangkok, Thailand, and then a couple of days back in Beijing before we return. Eating and site seeing will be aplenty, and I have many sites already picked out, though I welcome suggestions.

Can anyone recommend any cigar friendly places to enjoy a cigar and cocktail in any of these places? Are any of these places even tolerant of cigar smoking? Will I be shunned or arrested if I spark up in public?

I may take a look in a cigar shop or two while I'm over there, but I've read there are few that are worth chasing down unless you happen to be in the area. What are your thoughts on this? Can you recommend any?

Thanks.

I can't recall anywhere in Thailand really caring at all.  The people are too nice anyays and would never say anything as long as you two are having a good time.  That country is the model for customer service. Plus most places in Thailand are outdoors already.  I'd recommend hitting up Whisgars in Bangkok.  Me and my fiancé really liked the place.  It's a whiskey/cigar bar that also has food and even a vodka ice bar as well.  Your gonna love Thailand, especially Chiang Mai.  I'm gonna go ahead and say that when you get back, your going to wish that you had spent longer in Chiang Mai and less in Bangkok.

In BKK, the JW Marriott, the Oriental and InterContinental have good cigar spots. If you want to smoke and get good cocktails, there are a few places but you might try the Black Amber Social Club. There were some places near the JW that didn't want me to smoke a cigar, just paid them off and all was fine.

In Beijing there are two LCDHs, both at hotels.

Brand new LCDH in Chang Mai. Also a LCDH at Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. Prices are expensive. Very chill for an afternoon.

Hi mate are you able to smoke at the LCDH in  Chiang mai?? I head there a bit on holiday.

I just got back 3weeks ago from bangkok chiang mai I brought my own as it is expensive pretty much equal to canadian/aus prices.. also you can pretty much smoke anywhere thats not indoor a/c.. any bar or resturant that is open air let you smoke it was awesome coming from a country where you can't even smoke in your flat. Also i highly recommend octave bar in bangkok its awesome and you dont have to dress up sandal and shorts are just fine..their happy hr is 5-7pm 2 for 1 cocktails and nice cocktails... damm i miss thailand already

I didn't see a LCDH in Chiang Mai, but most restaurants and bars with outdoor seating were tolerant of cigar smoking, so no issues with that. I ended a couple walking around to a couple of bars in the yellow bar area a couple of nights and never had an issue smoking my own cigars.

In Bangkok I went to the Mandarin Oriental one evening and checked out their LCDH, which was quite expensive and not a great selection to choose from - nor the best conditions I might add. Unfortunately, without a blazer or suit jacket they would not let me hang out and smoke there, so be warned.

Again, I had no problem smoking at any outdoor venues in Bangkok, they're very friendly and easy going. But I highly suggest you bring your own cigars.
