H Upman Magnum 50

Smoked one of these this evening, I have to say I think this is without a doubt my favourite cigar, it's reasonable priced, there's lots of availability, the quality generally seems excellent, they seem to smoke well young (I can never seem to keep them long enough to let them age...) but to an extent it seems to fly under the radar? I've noticed on el presidente's sale threads here that the Magnum 50's tend to sell out incredibly quickly so I'm guessing I'm not the only one who thinks like this, what's everyone elses opinion on this cigar?

Very interested in this cigar. I love that it comes in boxes of 10, and I think it's an excellent size. 

Haven't tried it yet, so I am curious for opinions on it as well.

They have  a legion of fans but some find them to be too light.  Horses for courses. 

I love the complexity of a Mag 50. My perfect larger format summer cigar.

• Maybe I just got lucky but these are the prettiest cigars in my humidor. Beautiful dark and oily wrappers.
• Well constructed
• Good smoke volume
• nice size for me

• I'll defer to Rob's opinion but I don't see them as being particularly complex.

Love these as well. My box has tasted like someone took half an SLR Regio and half an Upmann #2 and joined them right in the middle. Fruit and cream the first half, then coffee, shortbread, and nuts the second half. I might have to light one up tomorrow night now that I'm thinking about them.

I have been tending to gravitate towards smaller RG cigars lately too. Someone buy a box and let me get a 5er!

I usually prefer cigars in the 1-5 yrs range. Lots of cigars Im digging in with only a year on them. The mag 50... can´t stand it under 3 years. its almost not possible to smoke for me. then it opens up. my ENE 14 box (3smoked) is just slowly getting there and coming along. boxes from 10, 11 are great now. though the fruitiness is not that intense

Grabbed a box of 10 back in 2007/2008 and have never looked back!

I blame my addiction to them on El Presidente's youtube video from back in the day and several posts on the board about them.  

As long as the quality is good, you can never have too many Mag 50's.

I'm not really buying the complexity=Greatness equation. A lot can be said about having a few flavors but executing it well. Cream, coco and hazlenut battling it out for an hour or so is delicious if throw in varying intensity. Simplicity done well has its place in the sun.

I've only had a few, and they have been great.  I have a 09 cab acclimating that I'll dig into in a month or so.

Haven't tried one yet, but I definitely like that fact then come in 10s. They are quite pricey in my neck of the woods so haven't really considered grabbing a box, but a few singles shouldn't break the bank. I've thorough enjoyed the 46s and 56s I've had so it's probably time I took the plunge and grabbed a few to rest for next summer.

Count me among those who like the boxes of 10 especially when I  am still trying as many different marcas as possible (on a nurse aide salary!)

Every box of 10 that I have purchased have been superior to the boxes of 25.  This hold true for other sticks (Siglo VI, HDM EE, etc, etc.) that also come in option of 10's or 25's.

Got a 10 count box of these.  After having one i bought a 25 count box the next time they came up on 24:24.  A 50 cab would be delightful but eveytime they've showed up is after i've spent too much on my credit card (thus forcing me to be a semi-responsible adult).

Just lit up the first from a box from 2008. Great creamy coffee flavors. Earthy with some hazelnut. Perfect burn. Smoked it all the way to the knub.

Wish they offered the Mag 50 and Mag 46 in 50 cabs still.  I'd be down for a couple of both!

Don't take too much heed in my comments, others have much more refined and exacting palates' than I but out of a handful I've had from a OPM May 09 box, they are a little underwhelming but with a nice salty note.  Definitely can agree with Prez's thoughts on a good summer smoke though.

I'm with you, 100%. I'm still in the "try everything, but don't have a ton of money" phase, and 10ers are helpful that way.

@Hutch   Aged or current production?  Have been away from the site for several years and I have not seen any 50 cabs here recently or from other vendors (excepted aged stock).
