Dimmers Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure Number 1: MLO JUN 2011 : HDM Review Comp 2016 Quick fire review. This has been an outstanding cab the last 24 months. Love Epi 1s generally , but havent much experience with ones pre 2011. Stick torched for this review has a beautiful wrapper, but was quite firm. A tad worried about draw issues. Threw into fridge for an hour for good measure. Draw ended up being firm side but manageable. A wonderful smoke. No real rough edges, that smooth taste that only a cigar with some years on it can achieve. About medium throughout. Lots of really white ash. Predominately herbal and cedar notes. Some vanilla and choc notes in first half, faded later in smoke. Picked up some more floral notes to complement herbal/ceadr notes later in smoke. Very nice, though couldn’t quite pick what they were. A great cigar, look forward to seeing development. 4
Danimalia Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Great review, man. Yeah, my EEs had kind of a strange, aromatic note to them that I eventually decided was almost like a lavender or some other type of floral scent. Quite enjoyable. 1

Dimmers Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks dudes. Epi 1's are rounding out as my fav HDM aside from des dieux, and probably in my top 5 regular prod right now. Though those tasty little De Luxe's have also got my attention of late....

I'm crap at picking flavours generally, but even worse when comes to floral notes. I don't think id identify what I found in Epi1 as lavender, moreso dried flower summer-like notes if that make sense. And didn't last too long, fading in and out. But agree it was very enjoyable.
