Well, finally bit the bullet and got myself a pair of RM Williams Craftsman boots. Damn! I don't know why I waited so long!

These have got to be the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever had. If I didn't have to wear steelcapped boots at work, I'd be wearing them now. A bit pricey at $495, but I'm already thinking about picking up another pair in black or tan (mine are chestnut).

I have to agree!

i alternate a black and brown pair during the work week!  The classic styling means they look just as good with a dinner suit as they do with pair of jeans.

Absolutely!

I've picked up a couple of pairs in the sales .... makes the pain a bit more bearable.  My one gripe is that the special comfort insole has to be ordered when you buy -- they can't retrofit it.

And as an added bonus, it's one of the few things in any RMW store that is actually made in Australia.

I picked up the Comfort Craftsman with the rubber sole. I like the leather sole version, but they weren't as comfortable. And as I have a wide foot (H fitting), not all of the styles fit me. Might check the Xmas sales this year and see if I can pick up another Craftsman in black.

As an added bonus, I'm within 60 days of my US/Cuba trip, so I get to claim back the GST! :P

I wear RM's. Comfy and durable. Can wear with jeans on the weekend and are good for work with a suit. They seem to go up about $50 every year though!!

there is a difference between tan and chestnut? next will be white and eggshell.

they are seriously pricey now, seem to have gone up enormously in recent years. but i have not been without a pair probably since high school. ditto moleskins. also their vest very good. and oilskins. have mine with me at the moment but the heel just separated from the boot - it seems to happen a fair bit with these shoes. some superglue works well until you can get them fixed.

my major problem with RM Williams has been the staff. girl in sydney tried to sell me a pair of stained moleskins. not happy when i insisted she go back and find another pair.

and the store at indooroopilly s'town, dreadful. went in one day and the only girl there sat on the phone talking to a friend about the weekend. i stood there for ten minutes in front of her and she did not even bother to acknowledge me. and when i told her what a waste of space she was, she seemed to think i was rude for interrupting her personal conversation. i'd walked in wearing moleskins, boots and their vest so it was probably reasonably evident i was a regular customer. head office indicated that the store had not been one of their finest, in that respect. i got the distinct impression her next call was to the unemployment centre. i hope so.

The staff in the Castle Towers store are pretty good; 2 ladies in their 50's and a young guy. Didn't try to up sell me or tell me I should buy their leather care stuff.
