Moogypug Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I have a love/hate relationship with Cohiba. I love it when I get a good stick. I hate it when I pay the premium price for a mediocre experience. Nevertheless, I can't pass up a good box when it comes along and roll the dice. I only smoke one the weekends, and only when I have the time...which means that the times are rare. I often choose Robusto/Coronas because anything bigger means I'm neglecting something or someone in my life. This weekend, I decided to smoke a brisket so I knew I was going to be on the deck for a bit. So I chose this Siglo VI. This cigar is from a box of 10 I purchased back in 2013 when I was abroad in Switzerland. I never had a Siglo VI before then and thought I'd give it a try. It takes me about 1.5 hours to enjoy one and I clocked in the same for this one. -First third- Many people experience a grassy honey flavor when they try a Cohiba but I have never tasted honey. The flavor that I get (and enjoy) is usually more like "Flower teas" you often enjoy when traveling through Southeast Asia. I describe this as a very subtle flowery sweetness (not as bold as honey) mixed with mild loose leaf black tea flavor. It feels and tastes elegant and refined to me. Siglo VI, when aged, give me that in spades. Now this one is only three years old but I can see that it's coming along nicely. The first third is full of these flavors, and it's moderate in strength. Long beautiful finish -Second Third- This is where this cigar shines. All of those flavors are amplified, and on top of the flowery tea flavor I get a little bit of spice. Strength is now medium-full and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I decided to sip a little bit of Glenmorangie to accompany this cigar at this point. Some people say you shouldn't mix stuff when reviewing but hey, I'm not a professional. -Final Third Medium body again. Less tea, more flower. I have some lighting issues and have to relight. Even with the relight, the sweetness is still intense. The alcohol is kicking in. The stick is so good, I have to smoke it to the very end. Right at the end, I get more of that tea flavor (maybe this is the grassy flavor that everyone talks about. -Final Thoughts- This box has been good to me. I have another Siglo VI that I'm aging but must say it's not as enjoyable. That box is mediocre, and thus continues my love/hate relationship. I wish that I could get consistency in my Cohibas all the time. I've been pretty lucky with my Robustos and Siglo IIs but it's been hit or miss on the rest. I hope the harvest is good this year. I need to restock on some soon. 2
