*When the Fuente Fuente Opus X's came out I tried them - and several times. It's just at best "ordinary" for me. I mean I gave it more than one, two, three tries and was just not impressed. Like Bohn0

I hate them. Opus X is the marketing triumph. I have tried 3 sizes, plus a tin of 3 Reserva d'Chateau (churchill size) that I've patiently aged 5+ years, to discover there's nothing to age in such a p

I agree with what you say exactly. I prefer the milder, creamier, complexity of the CC.

Spice bomb.  Tobacco flavor and pepper all the way. Very rich.  Nice smoke but I will not have another in the rotation.  Maybe in a few more years I will fire one up.  nothing wrong with it but my tastes have changed.

Opus X isn't a bad cigar but how do I justify the price when I can just reach for an RASS or Upmann #2

Thank you brother!! I think for the most part they really start to come into their own around 5-7 years in.

If price is an issue in your smoking, then Opus isn't the cigar for you. Nothing wrong with that either, because like you said, there are plenty of beautiful cigars for less. To each his own. We all have to make that decision of whether or not that price is worth it to us.

The "not for you" statement comes off a little elitist squadron leader. (I'm sure it isn't intended)

Price vs value is a factor in every buying decision. There isn't one of us here that wouldn't find $40 to buy "the perfect cigar" if it consistently existed. Opus is at best a $10-20 cigar with a $20 label (based on the metric ton of reviews I've read which don't seem to come to any consensus whatsoever). If you like them, great! That's important and I do think they're producing a quality cigar, how much quality is open to much personal conjecture. If one of the fine gents here doesn't agree that tossing money away just to be tossing it away (in their valuation or experience) is in their wheelhouse, please by all means support that.

Again, I've had cigars that I'd consider represent the top 5% of tobacco produceable that were under $10, and I've conversely had rotten $40+ cigars hailed as revelatory by the reviewers that received them for free. The name or producer means nearly nothing. The tobacco within (and priming ratios therein) is everything, and it's hard to get the exact same leaf season after season.

My apologies. I had absolutely no intention of conveying that. I'm not sure how to explain what I meant by that statement. I'll try... Many guys here are saying that they can't justify the money for so expensive a cigar. I respect that completely. I always have. When I was smoking 30 cigars a week, I couldn't either. I now smoke 3, like I've said before, and decided to make price per stick a non issue. I've still cut back by $1,200 a month. I completely understand that price vs. value is a factor.

I hope this is better said. I realize that the previous comment was poorly written and I promise you that I'm in no way elitist. Hell, I live in a mobile home and drive a car that's falling apart.

To Bohn007, first, and to the rest of you... My sincerest apologies for sounding arrogant

Dennis, no offense taken and thank you for messaging me as well on the topic. As I mentioned privately, talking about someone's "budget" is always a little touchy. It's strictly a value issue for me. When I buy a box of Behike's, at least I think that I am getting something somewhat special. I know that I just opened up another thread on whether Behike's are special.....LOL. Certainly the same with any of the LE's. With the Opus, I compare it to a RASS or Upmann #2, and I just think that I am smoking a better cigar with either.

That works out well, since MSRP is $9-16 for their regular line :)There are quite a few that I personally much prefer. But I have to take exception when folks are under a misconception based on prices from scalpers, flippers, secondary retail establishments that don't have an Opus acct., or unfortunately are in a high tax state.

One of the things that I love about cigars is that it's like wine. It's all about personall preference and thus everyone is correct.
