bman75 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 ...Or, will HSA ever release another sub-50rg cigar that isn't meant to be smoked in the 35 minutes of free time we are supposedly limited to now? Just found it curious that Trinidad Coloniales and the Upmann & Monte half-coronas are the only 44rg regular production. 44rg seems like a hole in the lineup. When I have a mareva, I consider it a small cigar. When I have a corona gorda, I feel that I'm having a full size cigar. Is there room for something in the middle? I adore the size of the 43x6 JLP Cazadores I have - just wish it was a better cigar. Does anyone think that a Franciscos (44 X 5.6) would sell well, especially for marcas that don't offer a corona gorda? 1
Popular Post El Presidente Posted August 3, 2016 Popular Post Posted August 3, 2016 I think that a 44 x 5.6 should be rolled out in Diplomatico as a test case. It would be a superb cigar. Ramon Allones and Punch would be the next. All three would be winners. 11
Notsocleaver Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 If I could get the H Upmann Half corona in the Coloniales size, I might not smoke anything else.

NSXCIGAR Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Franciscos--my favorite vitola of all time. Can only get 44 RG in a Coloniales these days. Not the worlds's biggest Trini fan, but the last Coloniales I had was pretty good... Fun fact: only two regular production cigars post-revolution ever were of the Franciscos vitola: Boli CE and RA Allones Extra (re-released as a 2011 EL) Rob's idea for a Dip Franciscos is brilliant. Dip needs another vitola badly. There are plenty of people who aren't big fans of the Piramides (me included). Having one vitola in the lineup and it being a Piramides is utterly insane. The Dip 2 seems to be performing so well right now that it's just a crying shame HSA feels the need to alienate so many people that prefer smaller RG. I mean, the least they could do is a Corona Gorda. I could even live with a Robusto or Hermosos #4 or--gasp--a Robusto Extra. The two discontinued cigars that people appear to miss the most by far are the Boli CE and the Dip 4. HSA could almost kill two birds with one stone with a Dip Franciscos. Would love to see a Rafael Gonzalez Franciscos. Interestingly, the original PL Picadores was a 44 RG. HSA just can't introduce anything these days less than 46 RG (unless it's another Mareva for RyJ) Sadly, we will likely never see any of this because HSA's marketing is run by chimpanzees. 2
JohnS Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Although longer (162 mm or just under 6.4 inches), the Fonseca No.1 is another 44 ring gauge cigar (Ok...CCW says 43rg!). Apparently discontinued, but still shows up from time to time.

Some of our <cough> are lucky enough to still have a box of these most delectable of cigars...
Duxnutz Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Had a Boli CE yesterday. Such a classy cigar. I completely agree, we need more 44RG regular production. I remain hopeful of a Diplomatico skinny (relatively speaking!). 2
Fugu Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Don't care about the Coloniales, don't need a 44 RG Diplo nor a Fonseca 1. Don't need more, just need one. Bring back the BCE and I am happy. 2

Yes, Cuban Cigar Website lists it as such... http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.aspx?brand=fonseca#Fonseca_No.1 Strange, some other websites on-line reference it as 44 rg, but I'm more than happy to accept it as 43 ring gauge. Pity it's not around, I don't mind its wood, floral and honey notes every now and then.
joeypots Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I'm thinking that the popularity of jaw breakers will make Habanos limit the smaller RG sizes. There are quite a few 42RG and 46RG. I'd bet against them filling that small gap when they will sell less of them while 220 RG X 3" cigars fly off the shelves. I grieve the loss of my BCEs.
Philc2001 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 It's very disappointing HSA keeps killing off the great slender formats. I love the lonsdale, corona and corona gorda formats. Man I've smoked a lot of Boli Inmensas, Punch SS#1, SS#2 and Coronas. I miss them. Montecristo seems to be one of the only marcas that haven't yet been decimated like the others. I think I better stock up before HSA unsheathes their axe again.

bman75 Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 Alas, I started smoking too recently to have ever enjoyed a BCE. I can only imagine how nice they were. Great idea by Pres to add a Dip Franciscos. Even if something like that eventually makes regular production as supposed to EL/RE, I can see HSA suggested retail around $180 as it is a new cigar and gets the new cigar HSA pricing. In any case, sign me up. Maybe I'll take a plunge on a box of the similarly-sized Fonseca 1 while there are still some to be had. I've only had the Fonseca Delicias which, like Ken when he describes cigars he isn't thrilled with, I'd describe as "pleasant." Like saying a woman has a nice personality . I'm surprised that with the F1 being discontinued that Fonseca remains a Multi-Local marca while Ramon Allones is still Local. HSA must sell a lot of the short filler Fonseca in Europe.
pilar Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Like my wife says, its best if the girth is proportionate to the length. I don't like these big ringed cigars but I prefer even a mareva to a robusto. I wish there were more corona sized vitolas.

Yes, the seven global brands (Cohiba, Montecristo, H.Upmann, Hoyo de Monterrey, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta and Jose L.Piedra) have remained relatively untouched, in regards to deletions, in comparison with other marcas. 1

Punch desperately needs a new cigar. A 44 x 5.6 is probably too close to the Punch Punch to add much variety. Personally I think if they just mirrored the Partagas Shorts (available in 25 and 50 counts of course!!) They would be onto a winner! Or even a Punch along the lines of the PL montecarlo.. but that's way to skinny for these times! Back to the 44 x 5.6 Maybe a Flor de Cano? Surely time to give the brand a reg. production long fill? 1

I am not a fan of the smaller Fonsecas and I like small RG cigars whether long or short. The F no 1, however, are a thing of beauty to me. So many flavors throughout and an action-packed smoke that often keeps me guessing puff to puff. 2
airtrade Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Well this thread just put me on yet another HTF discontinued search!Must try these BCE!Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
