Miller1985 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 A friend and I were speaking the other day about this subject, and it made me curious to what others experiences were. I've not had a cigar that the nicotine has affected me in almost two years. I've smoked LFD Double Ligero for breakfast on an empty stomach, but no effects whatsoever. Ever since the last episode, which was quite traumatic, it seems to have "cured" me. For reference, I only smoke 2-3 cigars per week. What is your experience? 1
MahDooRow Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Luckily, almost never for me. I hate the feeling of a nicotine buzz, so I am grateful that I get to enjoy all that is good about cigars without any negative side effects. 2

Ethernut Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Very rarely for me. Don't much like that Vitamin N o.d. feeling either.. 2
scap99 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 As long as I smoke outdoors I'm safe. In my shed or at the local lounge and I'm getting Falcon Punched by it. 3
oliverdst Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I like it but I only can remember once in the last years: Selectos Finos about 3 years ago.
TheLiquidGator Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 If you get a buzz put something sweet under your tongue. Chocolate works for me and does not hurt the taste of the cigar. Works fast too. 2

It does work wonders very quickly when need be. 2

I don't enjoy any kind of buzz... Yes I know I'm weird... I just don't like the feel of being out of control, in any way, of my own body. 1

stogieluver Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I always drink a Cuba Libre when smoking. I smoke 2-3 cigars a day on the weekends and I can't ever remember getting a sick feeling or nicotine buzz. 2

Kinda like when you know you've had too much to drink, and there's no way to avoid a trip to worship at the porcelain throne.
ultramag Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I've only had this happen once at a herf. I was smoking a 2007 Camacho Liberty. Not sure if it was really that high in vitamin N or if it was just a culmination of the day right before dinner time. Either way, don't like it either and glad it's not an issue for me. I can vouch for the sugar packet under the tongue as well.

JohnS Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 A Nicotine buzz? Enough to feel queasy? Like the majority of respondents, not very often, no more than once or twice a year. 1
smokeyjoe01 Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I aim to get a nicotine buzz every time, that's one of the reasons to smoke. I avoid a nicotine OD by reducing my retrohaling during the cigar. There's so much more flavour to be had whilst retrohaling that I get carried away sometimes but I can feel the effect build & moderate my smoking accordingly.
yhomas Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 It depends on what one does with the smoke exactly. If I take a puff and hold it in the mouth for a while before blowing it out, and do that every puff, a nicotine buzz will happen fairly quickly for any cigar--immediately puffing out the smoke will reduce the nicotine dose. Retrohaling is similar--more retrohale will deliver more nicotine. Similarly, I believe spitting periodically is prone to reduce nicotine consumption relative to regularly swallowing saliva which will naturally have absorbed nicotine. Etc. Etc.

I do retrohale about every third puff. I can't help it. I love the extra flavors. It's like adding salt to food. 1
PapaDisco Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I've only got knocked upside the head once, and it was a (then) current production Monte 4 of all things. The rest of that box (some before, some after) had no similar effect. And I've had days since then of 3-5 big sticks with no buzz at all. I never put it down to acclimation, rather I assumed it's the better, more consistent aging and fermenting of the tobacco that's reducing the average nicotine load in a cigar? Every so often some unfermented leaf can slip through and you feel it, but otherwise it's smooth sailing! 1
demer Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Not very often at all but I have noticed in the last year caffeine is really affecting much more than it used to. 1
kuma Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Not very often. happens when smoking to fast and with smaller gauged smokes. As you smoke take a look at head and you can see the dark color of nic. covering the head. What I do to make sure that I can control the level is not cut to much off the cap (providing I have a good draw) and that way if need be and I get a build up of nic / tar I can clip a little more off the head and wah la good as new. mind you this nic. / tar build up mostly happens with thinner ring gauged cigars and fast puffing

I'd like to revise this. An Epi #2 has just given me a buzz better than any pinch of Skoal ever thought of. These are fresh off the boat, came in Friday. I'm in love.....that is all. 4

You bring up a great point, I didn't start retrohaling until a few months ago (I've never smoked cigs and I'm a semi-novice) and it definitely seems to increase the buzz for me. I notice a lot more subtlety in the retro now that I've mastered the art and I'm prone to overdoing the retro too. That probably explains my recent uptick in the nicotine buzz.
