I'm sure this topic has been covered many times in the past, but as a relative newb to Cuban cigars, I'm curious.

My personal is Hoyo. I feel in love with them from the moment that I smoked my first Epi 2 two years ago. Everything else I've smoked from HDM has been right in my wheelhouse, flavor profile wise.

Por Larranaga. Reg production, discontinued production, RE - doesn't matter. Just an awe-inspiring mix of rustic and elegant.

With only one cigar in the lineup, I may have to go Diplomaticos on this one.

Lol. I haven't had any of the current production Dip. The ones I have are from 2014. They're decent, but not amazing.

The 2015 HQ Dips that I got from Pres have been fantastic...not sure they will have a chance to age much.  Just got a box of the PSP from last night.  Those will see deep storage.

I'll be very surprised if you get a consensus #1 based on previous threads on this subject.  You're most likely going to see just about every marca available.

I expected as much. It's an interesting topic for me. To hear everyone's preferences, and at times the reasons why. It is largely how I "buy blind".

Lately I have had more Romeo Y Julieta's than any other marca. So they get my vote.

I like RyJ but they always leave me wanting more than they gave.  Guess I should lower my expectations next time I have one.

Monte is my recent favorite. Love the chocolate

When they're on, they're great, but, I find them to be very inconsistent...at least the ones I've had (other than the Monte No. 4).

I have a box of PSP Monte 4 from our host. I've loved them so far.

I need to buy some RyJ. Never had any of the Cuban variety.

I am a huge ERDM fan, but since they cut so many sizes that I enjoy, I have found the Montecristos to fill in well. Not even close to the same profile, but the Monte is a great smoke. As far as one cigar -- I love the Partagas 898 with age. I won't buy another box of PSD4s. Just not my thing.

Try San Cristobal La Fuerza

Those are on my short list for sure.

My advice, for what its worth, would be to focus as much, or more, on vitola's.  Since you're new to CC's, and if you're used to smoking the common size non Cubans in the large ring gauges so common to the NC's, don't rule out the smaller ring gauge CC's.  If you haven't already tried them, give the Por Larranaga Monte Carlos and Panatelas a try.

I will certainly give them a try. I have never been a fan of the larger ring gauges... At least my definition of large. My favorite it 46-50 ring. I thank you for your advice. My tendency has been to buy boxes of anything I can afford, in the corona to robusto vitolas, on 24:24.

I really like the PLPC's that I'm smoking right now.  They are a couple years old, though.  Seems to be very slim pickens on these lately.
