El Presidente Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Two weeks to go before the RIO Olympics and there is a decided lack of buzz down under. It will pick up I am sure. Are you looking forward to the Olympics? Are there any events that you are particularly looking forward to? Personally I will tune in to the swimming and the Rugby 7's. The good news for us down here is that the finals will fall into our breakfast timeslot. let us know your favourite events
Akela3rd Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Not in the slightest bit bothered. Tour de France is the only sporting event I make a point of watching, just because it's so iconic and such a mad event to attempt. When the Olympics was on in London we went on holiday for the two weeks to avoid it. Doesn't seem to be much of a buzz in the UK, but then again politics is the new sport over here (and I don't think we're very good at it either). Sent from my HTC One M8s using Tapatalk 1
Fuzz Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I'm looking forward to the Olympics, like I am my next colonoscopy. They're both about as interesting to watch on TV. 3

I had a colonoscopy and got to watch the whole thing on a big-screen TV -- fascinating watching! WAY better than any Olympics, IMHO! Personally, I think I shall I've the Olympics a miss. It's a circus these days, funded by billions in advertising money, where the most entertainment to be had is to spot the next drugs cheat. The only event I will probably see is the Rugby ... I much prefer the Paralympics -- to my mind, those athletes are far truer to the spirit of Olympia, and to see those handicapped strive -- and succeed -- to overcome their disadvantages is genuinely inspiring.
OZCUBAN Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I think they should end it especially in today's financial climate (Worldwide) most country's cannot afford to hold it what sort of legacy will this leave for Brasil another option is to hold it one country and other countries chip in,maybe Greece ,but then the money might go missing
wabashcr Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I enjoy the swimming, track, basketball and soccer. Golf would have been interesting this year if not for the legions of withdrawals. I'll watch quite a bit of boxing and tennis if they're televised at the right times. Interested to see how the sevens tournament plays out. No use for gymnastics or any of the other events. I still enjoy the competitive spirit of the Olympics, which is still present, especially with the amateur athletes. But it's getting harder and harder to enjoy the games in the shadow of the IOC's corruption. They're robbing some of these host countries blind, and the legacy of the games locally ends up being a huge blight on the people in the host cities. It's becoming increasingly rare to see a positive legacy from the Olympics for the host city. Add onto that the doping issues, the Zika virus, and the condition of the facilities in Rio, and it's really not easy to get too excited for the Olympics this year.
raymond5737 Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 How can anyone resist Women's Gymnastics? My Favorite... 1
David88 Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I'm looking forward to the olympics but there has been a noticeable lack of excitement in the build up to Rio, instead the focus has been on what could go wrong. The rugby 7s should be good and I enjoy watching the road cycling and kayaking. If the women's beach volleyball should happen to come on while I am coincidentally watching then I may keep that on too
LeafLover Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I hope Brazil springs for some cheerleaders on the sidelines for all events.
Cubatabaco Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I'm not really a summer Olympics fan, but with golf returning this year, I'll enjoy watching that. Of course, soccer is a must! As far as everything else,...meh!
LukeC Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I'm an Olympics junkie! When those 2 weeks come around the tv and dvr become mine. I'd take 2 weeks of vacation if I could just so I could watch as much of it as possible. I'm considering going to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics!
Puros Y Vino Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Zero interest. More interested in the surrounding circus that is going to ensue. It's criminal what hosting the World Cup and the Olympics consecutively is doing to an already fractured class system.
MahDooRow Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Not much interest right now. But I'm hoping to gain some enthusiasm once the games begin.
skalls Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Love the competition at the olympics. Hate the IOC and the political bullshit and requirement that a third world country pays billions to host it.

LLC Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 No interest or anticipation now. Maybe when it starts something will get my attention but I doubt it.

Being from the Great White North, the winter games are usually more suited for us Canadians, but really do love the completion at the Summer games as well!

I love all sports, including the Olympics.
Ken Gargett Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 when i was a kid, absolutely besotted by the olympics. rushed home to watch highlights. read everything. now, could not give a toss. squibbing on banning russia shows how spineless the organisers are. to include tennis and golf is a farce. the whole thing has taken over from cycling as the greatest drugs festival on the planet - a few years back, i asked a mate who ran in atlanta about the drugs. at the time, one of our female athlete was banging on endlessly about how unfair it was and how she and many others were robbed of the chance of medals (i thought it was her bog average ability that did that but may be i'm wrong). my mate was telling me that he was in the same dressing room on one occasion where she was shoving the needles in as fast as possible. no attempt to hide it. i did say that surely none of our top swimmers would not be on drugs. he nearly did a hernia he laughed so hard. yet no doubt we'll squeal blue murder about other nations. i did actually check the timing the other day. i was very disappointed to find that they were not on when i was travelling. much easier to avoid then. my interest over the years has gone from obsessed to couldn't give a toss.
Miner Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Synchronised swimming - now that's a real sport . Might as well include ballet in the next games. I bet the ancient Greeks are looking down wondering wtf happened to the Olympics. Cheers
