perkinke Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Could this be an attempt by some anti-communist traditionalists at poisoning the talks with Cuba? I'd sure be pissed if someone handed me a case of Miller as a "goodwill" gesture!
Corylax18 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 As TexAg said, Miller is owned by SABmiller, of London, England. They actually own Fosters too. The Miller Lite is brewed in one of 8 Breweries in the states then distributed all over the world. SABMiller sells their beer directly to distributors. The brewer is out of the process (for the most part) once the beer leaves their loading dock. Once the distributor buys the beer from SAB and moves it to their own country/facility there is no reason they can't turn around and ship it straight to Cuba. It could very easily happen through Mexico, or a number of Central/South American countries. The problem has always been getting your profits back off the island, with any import, let alone a "US Based" product. Being based in Mexico, or say Venezuela would make it relatively easier to get your profits back, than if you were in the US. Still not easy though especially on any large scale. Maybe somebody has figured a way to get the beer in and keep the money under the radar on the way out. The lack of Buccanero or Cristale is crazy to see. I read an article, maybe posted here, saying that the brewery there was already having trouble keeping up with the increased demand, a picture is worth a thousand words. "American" beer available on the shelves in Cuba, but no Cuban beer. Haha who would have thunk it?
