Water.

Or pref sports drinks, orange juice, rehydration sachet in water - plain water can mean you just piss out even more of the stuff you're already missing.

Milk Thistle, NAC, multi-vit. NSAID Painkiller to relieve inflamation.

I would suggest TUDCA but there is some possiblity this can actually cause more damage when taken after drinking so the jury is out on that one.

Most of that (not the painkillers!) can also be done prior to or even during boozing, as well as after and then in the morning.

A decent meal before drinking, or even better eat while drinking - Some evidence that those countries that traditionally drink a lot but during meals/while eating (think tapas) don't suffer the same liver damage as those who don't.

Friend of mine always set the alarm 1 hour before wake up time the day after drinking.

When the alarm went of he scooped 4 fizzy tablets (don't know the word in english) into a 600ml glass of water. 1 Vitamin B/D, 1 Berocca, 1 Vitamin C and 1 Resorb (salt and electrolytes) chugged it and promptly back to sleep, always wakes up in great shape an hour later.

Drink a 32oz Gatoraide or other sports drink before passing out. If you forget to do this and wake up with a hangover a light lager like Bud Light, with tomato juice and olives and drink a bit of Gatoraide or other sports drink between. After head pain goes away drink only the sports drink or water. Point is, your dehydrated and you need electrolytes and fluid. The beer, tomato juice and olives has quickly alleviated some of the worst hangovers quickly.

A hangover has 3 aspects: Dehydration, high levels of acidity in the digestive system, toxins. How to combat dehydration is obvious, acidity is best reduced or prevented by something acidic,  try bit of lemon juice or if you can handle: apple vinegar, the disposal of alcohol related toxins is best enhanced by certain amino acids, chicken is doing a good job here.

A trip to McDonalds for:

2 cheeseburgers

1 large fry

your choice of sugary soda

then 800mg of ibuprofen, flip on whatever golf tournament or David Attenborogh special is playing and take a two hour nap.

Wake up 100% recovered and ready to go again straight away.

A full English.

Bacon, bangers, fried eggs, baked beans, black pudding and a fried slice, all washed down with a pot of builders' tea.

After all that, I am so busy trying to keep it all down, I simply forget about the headache.

This, or drink a gallon of water prior to going horizontal (or combine for safety).
