I was browsing the Habanos SA website earlier, waiting to retry the Verification feature when I saw that Montecristo has a "Tubo" that is a separate Vitola from any of the un tubed sizes. A 42 by 6 1/8" Corona Grande or pretty much the perfect size in my opinion.

I have been poking around cubancigarwebsite.com and the internet in general, but I haven't found a lot of good info on these.

I guess my main question is why haven't I seen these anywhere before? Monte is my favorite Marca. I regularly smoke 2s, 3s and 4s, but I know nothing of the Tubos. I don't hear anybody talking/raving or bitching about them. In fact, I haven't heard anything at all. What gives? Are they low volume/production or do they suck?

From outside appearances, the marca, size, and convenience of the Tubes attracts me, but I dont know anything else about them. Does anybody have experience with these?

Have you tried the INT Store link at the top of the page? Looks like Rob has 25-count boxes in stock...

They used to suck big time in the early-mid 2000's. They were probably the worst thing produced under the Montecristo label. They were widely available (in Europe) but the typical customer was someone making a gift to a smoker friend/relative/business partner, not the amateur/aficionado.

I meant more that I've never heard anybody talking about them. I can't say that I've never seen them for sale as I've never really looked. I wouldn't be opposed to picking up a box (or maybe a 3 pack to start), but I wanted to get some more info on them first.

I found plenty of links to old French and British Cigar mags and blogs panning them, but most of those were 02,03,04, 05 sticks. I know a a lot of people think inferior sticks go into tubes for the reason you mentioned above, plus the extra layer of protection against checking for visual imperfections. I haven't smoked enough Tubos in general to have an opinion on that myself.

I'm smoking thru a box of 09 right now and they're delicious, the trick is getting a good box! Since it's a unique size, right between the #1 and #3, the tubes can't be used for hiding inferior smokes.

I think the reason you don't hear much about them is they're so expensive, tubed cigars always cost more than their non tubed brothers, but these cigars are way more then the #1. The only reason I have a box is I got them for a fair price, I'm not going pay $70 extra because they're in tubes. You can get a box of Especiales for the same price as the tubes, so why would you buy the tubes.....

I ve some some a while ago and i liked them but like mention earlier , no one buy them cuz of the prices. I used to buy it 2 or 3 at the time but the box price is just too much for what it is .. i rather get a #3 or #4

I too love the tubes but hate the price. As far as I can tell, there's not much difference between the Tubos and the standard line in terms of taste. As noted above, I'd have a hard time picking the Tubos over the Especiales #2 at the same price.

I will say the Tubos and Petit Tubos I've had were all quite good, but I haven't had any in a while. The non-tubed have been performing well, and no need for me to deviate, especially for more money.

AAHHH. There it is. Quite a steep price. If the weights on *****INT are accurate, you actually get about the same amount of tobacco(by weight) in the Tubos and Especial No. 1s. Make the Tubos seem like a steal for $15 less a box. Haha. Unless they are twice as good, it seems like a box of the regular No. 1s and something to drink with them would be the better spend. wink2.gif

I'm a fan too. I grabbed a 3 pack in Cuba in 2012 and ended up regretting such a small quantity. Not sure of the date code but I guess they were 2011s. Lovely smokes.

I've always found the Monte Tubos to be more consistent box to box than the other 42 RG models. I can't recall ever having a bad Tubos.

I've always thought the Tubos No. 1 is a good value relative to the Monte 1 as it's almost the same size and can often be had for only about $1/stick more.

Are MC Tubos good to buy blind? Or do you still have to watch out as if they were MC No.2s or 4s...?

Hi guys. Anyone had experience with POS codes for Monte Tubos? I am interested in buying a box of POS SEP 11 (15c). Was 2011 a good year? Thanks, Luca
