TomF
This is a small cigar (6 inches by 32 rg) and is one of the cigars that really rocks my jocks. I smoke a lot of them. This one is the last of a box that I've had in my humidor for about 3 1/2 months. Luckily I have 2 more boxes still sitting. Sunday morning with coffee is my favorite time to smoke one of these. Cold draw: Very easy draw, but not a wind tunnel. Lots of salt with a sour note and something sweet. It tastes like the Caribbean and promises lots of flavor. On the light and through the first inch it's salt on the tongue and pepper on the lips and through the nose. But there is also that very pronounced citrusy/sour/sweetness, like seaweed and grapefruit juice. The smoke is thick and creamy and there is lots of it. After the first third and through the second the saltiness diminishes and the twang becomes deeper, more earthy but still very creamy. Some other flavors develop, leather and licorice come through. There is no mongrel, no hard edges and it's smooth as silk through the nose. The aroma is pungent and floral. You need to slow down with this one, not only because it tastes so frickin good and we want it to last as long as possible, but also because as we get into the last third the nicotine makes it's presence known. In the last half I just sip on it. Small draws bring plenty of intensely flavorful smoke. For such a skinny little cigar who would guess that it has the potential to really kick your ass but it gets powerful at the end. In the last third the salt is gone, the twang takes a back seat and the earth, cream and leather come forward. And here the pepper also comes back around and lingers on my lips and tongue from one draw to the next. Now my fingers are burning and it's done. Smoking time, about an hour and a quarter. If I had to be stranded on a desert island with one cigar, this would be it.
Fugu
Thanks for the nice review, Tom. One of my favourites, too. I like that - apart from the floral aspect, almost nothing of the characteristics I find in this cigar, haha, but hey, shows how subjective taste is. Cheers, brother. Off topic - do I really spot a smoking warning on your ash tray?!! Never seen such before. But with plain packaging etc., making sense somehow... It's same warning that they put on packs of cigarettes here. It bothered me a lot when I first got the ashtray, and I tried to get it off but it's baked in. I've gotten used to it being there and now I just ignore it. We don't have plain packaging here, but in the USA smoking is generally frowned on and smokers are shamed at every turn. And I'd love to hear what flavors appear to you in the MdO4...
Fugu
I have yet to find citrus, sour notes or grapefruit aspects in them. But will certainly be on the lookout for that next time! Also salt and seaweed is not an aspect that would spring first to my mind in a No 4 for me. I usually find them quite floral, with a certain earthy (forest floor) component, added nuttyness (hazelnut to specify) and sometimes even some sweet toffee notes (developing with age). Agree on the usually very good smoke volume for that size, with a certain velvety creaminess to it. So or so, always an excellent cigar that rarely disappoints..
TomF
So or so, always an excellent cigar that rarely disappoints.. And yes, I've gotten those toffee/nutty kinds of flavors from them too, but not from this one. I usually do get a twangy sour note from them in the first half, but not in a bad way. This one also happened to be salty, but not too salty. The few times I've been disappointed with these is if they are plugged, and I've had one or two get tarry at the end. But the burn and construction has been consistently good. I've gone through a few boxes over the past 18 months, and they've all been 2014's.

Rye
Great review! Love the "seaweed and grapefruit juice" analogy. I enjoy these frequently, and that describes a point in the cigar spot on. Jock rockin indeed!
