foursite12 Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Picked up a box of 10 of these from Rob last year (RAE Abr 15). Although this is a cigar that has gotten mixed reviews on this forum, I was intrigued. This is one of the few large ring gauge cigars in my humidor. I have just finished the first one out of that box. While many of the reviewers have found the cigar to be light, I found it to be more medium. It certainly has more backbone than the HDM DC. I was really happy with the myriad of flavors in this cigar; they just haven't quite come together in a unified way at this point in time. "Coltish" is the word that comes to mind, like a young Bordeaux. Although at this price point it ain't exactly cheap, given time this will be a fine, fine cigar--one that I will be looking to pick up here and there going forward.
Rye Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I fully agree with you @foursite12! I bought a 10ct on initial release and really didn't care for the first I smoked, but the last I smoked a couple months back showed massive potential with a myriad of great flavours. I have hidden the box deep in the back of the humidor, but like most of my cigars in the aging section, just talking about them like this will likely end up in that box coming to the front to be tested again soon
busdriver Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I want to smoke from examples from your boxes because the singles I have had dont live up to that. Glad to hear you guys are enjoying them and thanks for giving me reason to keep trying!
JohnS Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 not sure if they have a 25 box but if they do i'm gonna try and get one in early april when i go to cuba They come in Slide Lid Boxes of 10 and 25. I've enjoyed most of the San Juans I've had, the only exception being the last one, which I agree with foursite12, I found closer to medium-bodied, rather than light as I prefer. It's a typical 'Le Hoyo' line cigar, which characteristically benefit greatly from long-term aging.
