El Presidente Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Take construction as a given. It is hard to enjoy a cigar with poor construction. However wrapper? Do you find that some cigars just "sing" with a certain wrapper? ( be it Oscuro/Rosado/Claro/Colorado/Colorado+) let us know your experiences, What do YOU seek in any particular marque/vitola ...what do you hope for.
Popular Post planetary Posted February 24, 2016 Popular Post Posted February 24, 2016 I have absolutely no idea why, but I am finding that cigars (not just RyJ) with rosado wrappers tend to be absolutely delicious. 5
skalls Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 RyJ with the Rosado wrapper. Monte with the Colorado/Colorado+
Lotusguy Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I'll always go for the lighter wrappers - no matter which cigar. One reason why PSP and HQ don't usually do much for me. Lighter, not green, mind you 2
planetary Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I'll always go for the lighter wrappers - no matter which cigar. One reason why PSP and HQ don't usually do much for me. Interesting. Lighter, because of flavor profile? Or probability of thinness? Something else?
NSXCIGAR Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I would say the wrapper influences RyJ more than perhaps any other marca.
RickG Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I will smoke any wrapper. But for some reason, ever since I started my Cigar journey ( I'm just an cigar infant, with only five years under my belt. ) Ive always been more drawn to the darker wrappers. I pretty much started out running, by starting out with the more fuller sticks. At the time I didn't know any better. Now they are what I prefer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RickG Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Cohiba Genios and Magicos....the darker and oilyer the better IMHOive been seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on some of those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CaptainQuintero Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I tend to go for lighter on Monte, the darker seem to give a stronger body to the cigar from my experience which can drown out the citrus notes as the years tick by 1
mgravito Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 HdM Epicure no. 2. The wrappers need to be thin and lighter in color. The darker wrappers I find to be more tannic and sharp. They need an much longer amount of down time.
topdiesel Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I prefer lighter wrappers on Bolivar, ERDM, LGC and Cohiba. Darker on SP, Partagas, RA, Diplomaticos Rosado on RyJ
SipIt Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I know oil makes the wrapper darker than if it were dry, but to me a nice psp oil pungent wrapper isn't necessarily dark. Not sure if I'm wording it properly, but I am impressed by the psp and HQ selections and I also prefer lighter wrappers vs maduro and the likes.
IcedCanuck Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 HdM Epicure no. 2. The wrappers need to be thin and lighter in color. The darker wrappers I find to be more tannic and sharp. They need an much longer amount of down time. Exact opposite for me. The best HdM epi no.2 I have ever had were all very dark and oily wrappers. One of the best boxes of cigars I have ever had. But it depends on the cigar. CoRo's and Sig VI I prefer with a lighter wrapper. I know some don't think the wrapper has much to do with flavour but I am in the other camp on that one.
dangolf18 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I'll always go for the lighter wrappers - no matter which cigar. One reason why PSP and HQ don't usually do much for me. Lighter, not green, mind you I second this. Glad to see I'm not alone.
JohnS Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 RyJ only with a rosado wrapper. Cohiba and Hoyo de Monterrey, I prefer pale wrappers. Montecristo and San Cristobal de La Habana, I like darker and oily wrappers. 1
earthson Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 An orange hue on Cohiba is necessary for me. A reddish undertone is delightful on HU (seems to bring something extra to the table, even if only psychosomatic). A reddish undertone on RyJ screams cherries. Don't care the particular shade on RASS, so long as it's not flat, dull or monotone (when fresh). All else, I'm game to try different shades to see if there's a noticeable change-up in flavor. 1
Jeremy Festa Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I have absolutely no idea why, but I am finding that cigars (not just RyJ) with rosado wrappers tend to be absolutely delicious. I have found this to be true on a couple occasions also. My Bushido are fairly rosado and they are absolutely delicious. Usually, I like claro on QDO obviously, and also Trinidad. Colorado on SLR, PL LGC. And maybe shade darker on Sancho Panza, Partagas, Upmann & Ramon Allones. And then slightly darker again for Cuaba and SCDLH. They are my preferred marques. So I pay attention to those. Notable mention that I have had a very claro, almost candela box of Partagas de Partagas No. 1 that was next level amazatron. And I have just realised that I need more Hoyo, as I have had a few good examples more recently. If I got a couple from the Le Hoyo range, what should I look for? But I just smoke what Rob picks basically. 1
PapaDisco Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I've been enjoying Colorado Claro and also Colorado Rosado on just about anything I can find those on, but have frequently found even lighter, less oily wrappers (Claro) quite enjoyable. I'm not terribly sophisticated on matching a wrapper to a marca, that's a level of palate far beyond me at this point, but I have found a few pairings so far that seem to be forming a trend in my preferences: 1. Rosado on RyJ's, 2. Maduro on Punch Punch and H Upmann PC's 3. Anything dark and oily (but not Oscuro) on anything Partagas One of the things I've been enjoying about the Asia Pacific Regional Releases is that they consistently come with darker, more oily wrappers. Not that I'm a dark wrapper ***** or anything, as I regularly enjoy well rolled lighter stuff, but the Regionals out here seem to err in the direction of a classic, dark wrapper. My experience of that may be skewed by the fact that Rob is throwing out the junk beforehand . . .
Lotusguy Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Interesting. Lighter, because of flavor profile? Or probability of thinness? Something else? Flavor profile. I don't usually like earthy or leathery smokes and gravitate towards medium and light bodied anyway. 1
creamypies Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 The wrapper of any kind in any cigar is of critical importance. We enjoy with all of our senses so the look, smell, feel, and taste all matter. When quality is compromised it irrefutably makes an adverse impact for the discerning smoker
hoyopr Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Trini Reyes should always have thin, very light veins only and dark wrapper leaves used to construct. Other cigars I don't give as much concern about wrappers.
GavLew79 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I've had some stunning lighter wrapper ERdM CS, PSD4 and HdM Epi #2's.
irratebass Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I have absolutely no idea why, but I am finding that cigars (not just RyJ) with rosado wrappers tend to be absolutely delicious. RyJ with the Rosado wrapper. Monte with the Colorado/Colorado+ RyJ only with a rosado wrapper. Cohiba and Hoyo de Monterrey, I prefer pale wrappers. Montecristo and San Cristobal de La Habana, I like darker and oily wrappers. I'm a Rosado fiend, excuse my ignorance, but how do I know which sticks are wrapped in Rosado...I looked at CCW and didn't see anything regarding wrappers....unless i'm not looking in the right place.
nonameno Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Hello Fellow FOHers, I tend to enjoy the lighter claro wrappers on cigars like Juan Lopez, QdO, as I seem to pull more flavors from these and darker wrappers on RASS, which seems to accompany the richer flavor profile of Ramon. Thank you,Curtiss
zeedubbya Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Dark and oily. One area where I feel NCs have done a much better job. Consistency of wrapper. My tastes have changed in last two years from larger ring with lighter wrappers to smaller ring with darker wrappers. Padron is my best example of this. I used to like Padrón natural only. Now I am Maduro only. Strange. I did really enjoy a BBF recently from here which was very light and it was fantastic. So I guess I'm kind of like CCs. No consistency!
