SlimOne
Thanks for all of the replies Just to update you on the problem. Cigars have been frozen and now in the humidor. The D4's with holes have been turned to ash and WOW they were fantastic. Again thanks to everyone. This problem is what it took to get me off the fence and sign up to the forum. DONSVO
The My Father factory had a pretty bad run last year. Lots of folks with Crowned Heads were getting beetles. I freeze everything religiously but I saw at least 8 separate beetle sighting from cigars that were produced in the My Father factory in 2015. Jon Huber (Crowned Heads) did a lot to mitigate the social media backlash (there was quite a bit of it) but still, caveat emptor. Did I mention I just freeze everything anyways? danny
In my personal experience, going from standard humidor temp to an extreme cold temperature and back again without letting it acclimate properly can cause irreversible damage. ie. wrapper splitting due to expanding/contracting. I think a month in a deep freezer is a bit of overkill. I do 24-hours in the fridge from the humidor or shipping box, then 72-hours in the freezer, followed by 24-36 hours in the refrigerator again, then finally handle the cigars once they've had time to settle out of the refrigerator for 2-3hrs. Never had a problem using this route ever. Some do 48-72hrs right into the freezer and 24 in the 'fridge, but letting them slowly acclimate into each extreme would be my choice. Good luck! BonniePinter
Beetles can create havoc on your cigar collection. To freeze the undamaged cigars is the best way to protect them. The cold temperatures kill all stages of the beetles' life cycle. Just follow the specific instructions. You'll have worry-free cigar storage, and these pests won't bug you anymore. After trying this, if again you get troubled with these red monsters, best consult a pest inspection professional to get another idea or instructions.
