It's the only way to reduce the concentration of smell-causing matter! No way around it, Holmes. Nicotine and other chemicals endemic to tobacco seem to stubbornly stick to surfaces... even more than other combustables. Negative ion generators work on airborne particulates, but won't prevent them from lodging in porous surfaces.
