hitch450 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I live in a second floor apartment and temps can get pretty high, around 75F+ sometimes in summer bc I don't want the A/C running 24/7. Luckily haven't had any beetles yet but it scares me to death. I do keep my humi between 63%-65% rh. My collection is pretty small at the moment but it's growing rapidly. Ive decided I'm going to spend the money for a proper wineador with shelves and drawers. It's more expensive than my setup right now but considering the money I've spent on cigars and the money I'll spend in the future, it's definitely worth it to have the temperature control. And it'll give me much more peace of mind. No more constant stress about my cigars lol

mygar Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 All cigars exported from Cuba are frozen... right? On other thread, Rob states he has not seen a live beetle in a long time. Occasionaly, a dead one. And the man inspects 12 to 14K boxes a yr! By all means, freeze if it makes you sleep better... but for me theres more risk putting my cigars in freezer, fridge with my little rug rat kids haha 2
Smallclub Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I've seen them hatch below 70* in other collector's instances. Collector's instances of legally exported habanos, not mixed with custom cigars or NC's, in the last 10 or 12 years? I doubt it. 3
Fugu Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I guess it will have a higher educational value if those members that actually underwent an outbreak would post the particular circumstances leading to that incident, instead of members posting how they supposedly prevented beetle development by a particular freezing or storage regime... Never seen a living Lasioderma so far. Only dead signs of beetles, from "after treatment". One was a beetle hole in the head of a single Punch DC from a cab, the other one a dead pupated larva in the inner cardboard box of a 1966. I didn't even freeze them after seeing that. 4
